looking at a 2010 TE, any common problems arise yet?

Yes he met with Toyota American group today and is scheduled to meet with the engineering group from Japan on Friday. They are not only discussing the cloudy headlights ( I'm supposed to get the new design soon) but he said Tacoma's have a issue as well.

11' Trail

I bought mine in July/Aug. and it is doing very well, I have about 18,000 on it now, We have driven it quite a bit, mostly highway but It has been off road some too. It performed quite well too. we drove to Herndon,Va. from Ft. Benning via the outer banks with ZERO issues. I put a roof rack on as I have little room to spare in the back. That area belongs to my German Shepherd.
About the power, I had a GMC 4X4 with a v8 so I was surprised when I had to pass a car and it had no problem doing so.
About the only gripe is the seats are a little hard to get used to coming from the GMC. All in all I think it is a very good and reliable vehicle that is why I bought it. Too much drama with the GMC. I had a 88 land cruiser and it kinda reminds me of it. I am deployed to Afg. and my wife has been driving it since I have been gone, she was in a bad rain storm and she told me that she felt safer in it than in her car.(Mercedes e320) I hope I get my Trail back when I get home...

I have about 16,000 miles on mine and the only problem I have run into so far, is there is not enough places to take it off road around here. LOVE THIS THING!

good news guys, going to test drive another couple ones today, found a used one with 25 miles on it for a good price, someone else has already taken the hit on the "new" car price tab for me, hoping all goes well, wish me luck....


btw, frigg'n cool stuff here guys, a bunch of little things to check over is much much better then having to worry about some major bits breaking, sounds like toyota has kept with the quality builds, good to hear you guys are loving your trucks and all of the issues i'm hearing are non-mechanical, really like to hear that!

I hope my couple questions will not skew this post too much, here they are:

1)Has anyone experienced issue related to KDSS leaking? I understand that this particular version of KDSS has been around for only 2 years and it is probably too early to see those kinds of failures but you never know….
Just FYI: When I was looking for 4th generation I specifically avoided XREAS system because “leaking” was very common issue… and I sure hope that Toyota did better quality job with KDSS vs. XREAS.

2)When looking at TE model on my local dealer I have noticed that because of KDSS cylinder the front skid plate appears to have less ground clearance vs. the model without KDSS. I did not have a chance to measure it, but if anyone have any info on that please share.

I've had my Trail for a year with no leaking.

Yes, the skidplate for the Trail is lower than that of my SR5, but only by an inch or so.

My biggest gripe is I keep on dropping cash money into it. I swear it's a money pit. The mods never end. Didn't have this problem with my last truck, a pathfinder. :roadkill:

The TE does come with power driver and passinger seats and they do have the lumbar support.
