Looking for a lower ball joint bolt (westminster, co)

I'm checking to see if anyone near 104th and federal has one of the 14mm lower ball joint bolts laying around. I was working on replacing a cv axle with a torn boot when one of the bolts decided to break off. I would like to get the 4runner back together today if possible. Dealerships are closed and the pull and pay doesnt have any 4runners right now. Thanks for your help

Hardware store? They have grade 8 flanged bolts.

Thats probably what I'll end up doing just as a temporary solution. Everyone on here suggests getting oem bolts since they are so critical. Thanks for the suggestions!

Well, I did pay like $14 for all the bolts for both lbj's from the stealership, and those, with blue Loctite is some pretty cheap peace of mind, all things considered? Just throwing that out there

Ya. The hardware store bolt was going to be a temporary solution but I ended up failing horribly at removing the trouble bolt from the knuckle. Had to go to a junkyard and pick up a new knuckle so the car is out off commission until I get the new bolts.

Yeah, same. Think I saved em, but not sure if they're in my storage unit (in Thornton). I'll be able to check my house after 6 tonight but if they're not there I'm not sure when I can get up to my storage unit.

I bought all new ones the last time I did LBJs and I believe the old ones are still kicking around the garage somewhere. I'm at 76th and Lowell, about 10 minutes from you.

I'll dig around and see if I can find them. However, it is Tuesday and Mountain States Toyota is just 5 minutes away, could just get the new ones at this point.

I'm heading to Mountain States tomorrow to pick up the bolts. 8 so I can finish off both sides.

Not sure why but a lot of rust decided to form in a short amount of time. I put new LBJ on in the last 10000 miles so the bolts shouldn't have had time to rust together. They were torqued to 59ft/lbs with the blue loctite.

Any way to reduce rusting? Spray the bolts with WD40? I don't want to screw with the loctite but I also don't want this to happen again.

Blue Loctite is an excellent way to prevent the contacting threads from rusting, and keeps the bolt/nut easily removable.

Depends on the bolt.

If you have aftermarket bolts, not the stock ones, the. They're probably not treated like the stock ones are.

You can try spraying a light coat of paint on them, seeing if that helps.

I used pb blaster over wd40. Was able to break all the bolts loose without breaking any, after 17 years on the east coast. Good luck!

Problem has been solved. "New" used knuckle and 6 of the 8 needed bolts from Mountain States Toyota. Blue Loctite used and torqued to 59 ft-lbs. Thanks for the help.
