Looking for a new 4 Runner 4WD

Ok so I currently own a 2004 2WD $ Runner. I like it but I want to get a 4WD setup. What are your thoughts and recommendations for a year and engine size?

Also, I like the Tacoma and I would like to hear pro's and cons versus the 4 Runner, especially in the 4WD department. Price wise I would like to be somewhere under $15K.

My son has a 2014 Taco and I find the ride too stiff (yeah, I'm getting old). Also, the cab is more compact and not as comfortable for me. I have not tried his off road as that isn't my biggest concern.

Mine is an 03 SR5 V8 and I like the towing capability and constant 4WD as it is winter here half the year and I don't worry about gas economy all that much.

I'm in Canada, so I can't give an accurate price comparison for you guys down south.

i just went offroading with my buddy with a brand new tacoma. He did everything i did and just as easy. I'd say they're one in the same offroad. I think it will come down to if you need the bed or not. I throw everything in my cargo area and lock the door. I also have more room in my 4runner than my friends new tacoma, something about the cab being rearranged in the Tacoma and makes it a little tighter.

Agreed.

If you go shopping for 4Runners, make sure you get it up on a lift and look for rust on the frame. Remove the skid plate and spare tire. Some specific places to check for rust: by the front tow hooks and the frame crossmember under the transmission.

This^^ is reason got another 4r , the 03 Tacoma beat the crap outta my old bony ass , plus I like that I can camp in the back or store my clubs or any number of things you can't do unless you get a camper shell .
