*Looking for DFW area welder for sliders

Ive stopped by a few general welding shops and a big offroad shop in town asking pricing and availability to weld my 4xInno sliders together and on the truck. They first looked at me like I was crazy and then seemed to pick a number out of the air because they had no clue what to say. I was getting quotes anywhere from $400+!!!! :whipping2

I know this is a process because they have to basically be pieced together and that will take some time but I feel like they just didnt know what I was talking about so they guessed. I'm not a welder but I feel like an experienced welder thats done a few could knock them out in a few hours and cost $100-300 max. If it was the right guy, perhaps 100 bucks and some fine brews.

Anyhow, does anyone know or recommend an experienced slider welder in the DFW area? At the very least, someone that can help me weld them together so I can PC them and then get one of the muffler shops around town to weld them on?

This is all I have left to secure so I can make Jambo this year.

There's a saying I like to go buy - "Get it done right; get it done quick; get it done cheap; you can only pick two."

Would you rather go the cheap route, pay for the PC, then have them break on the trail from shoddy welding? The process for stripping the PC, cleaning the break, re-welding and then re-PC'ing would be worth the initial cost?

You have to look at it from the shop's perspective, if it's "only" going to take a couple hours, most shops charge $75+/hr at minimum for labor. Anywhere less than that I probably wouldn't trust to do the job. Taking into account you're bringing your own parts in, they're going to work on their customer's vehicles first. 9 out of 10 shops are going to charge you extra because they don't know where you got the parts, what condition those parts are in, and whether or not it even has all the components. Not judging you, but they don't know you and they get "take my word on it" every day.

I was a manufacturer rep in the aftermarket industry for 5 years, and covered DFW. There's plenty of great shops in DFW, what part of town are you in and I can give you a few recommendations.

In all seriousness, I understand what you're saying. In my mind I always assumed I'd take it to a reputable shop and bite the bullet but figured I'd ask.

I'm in the N Dallas area in the 'burbs. I don't mind venturing out a little bit if it's worth it. If I'm going to pay more for the job I'd want it to be with a shop that does it right rather than just paying for the privilege of saying the big name shop did my work..
 
Hah hey I mean you could always go that route and ask them to work on it when they can!

If you don't mind driving I would probably recommend Mike's Off Road in Ft. Worth above anyone else. They have a full crew who play as hard as they work and they definitely know their stuff.

CCF Offroad does a lot of custom fab-work. May be the best option price-wise but I'm not sure if they're in business anymore.

Honestly any 4WP store, they know their stuff and you don't get that big if you don't, but they may be a bit higher.

Smith Offroad & Performance is a good option too.
 
How about Baertrax in Dallas? Have some other recommendations but I'd start there? They seem to be a go to place for a lot of peeps. They were at Jambo last year too.
 
BaerTrax is definitely a great shop, but they're a smaller operation, pretty specialized, and in high demand. I doubt they'd have the time to fit you in quick, and my guess would be on the expensive side. BUT they are nice guys and no argument that they know what they're doing.
 
Contact Adam at Lone Star Mobile Welding. 214-477-1326. He has done a few sets of the 4X sliders for some people that I know.
