Looking for NEW Michelin Cross Terrains....Check this out!

I came across this on ebay, I am so tempted to dump the dunlops and get a set of these. This is the cheapest I have ever seen these tires.....

Hmmmm...the pics don't match up. One pic is of our stock Cross Terrains with the different tread pattern and the open shoulder. The other pic is of the Cross Terrain that you see on Michelin's website with the closed shoulder. Anybody who buys these had better hope the tires are not mix and match.

$167 a tire shipped. The two different pictures are of the different size tires that are available, as stated in the auction. What is the normal going price for this tire mounted +installed?

Ask how old the tires are. Also, the treads on my 18" cross terrains match the treads on the right hand of the pictures.

This is strange. Could Michelin really produce Cross Terrains with THREE different tread patterns, and if so...why would they???

I just went out and very carefully checked the pattern of my CTs on my Urban. It has the open shoulder of pic number one and the "jagged" center tread of pic number two.

Any tire experts out there that could explain this?

Consider shopping locally.

I researched online and got decent prices. My problem was no one had them in stock or even on a scheduled backorder. I then visited several tire dealers, told them specific brand/size and prices I had gotten.

Tire Rack.com and Discounttire.com listed for 170 + shipping, my best negotiated price from a local shop was 175.00+tax and in stock. No brainer.

It just takes a bit of time, patience and working the deal in a non-charged, respectful, can you do as good approach.

Tire manufacturers will 'modify' patterns slightly to suit a specific vehicles need in exchange for a contract to use a tire as OEM on a specific vehicle. If the 4Runner had a specific harmonic or needed some help in a specific area the tread could/would be modified to help. Now it's entirely possible the 4Runner was just fine and the tread was modified for another maker. If Toyota doesn't object to the slight modification then the tire company wins because they can say 265/60/18's will look like 'x' and 265/65/17's will be our "normal" tread for that tire series.
