Looking for the best fitting snorkel & roof rack pics please

I’m looking for the best fitting snorkel & roof rack for my 97 limited . I’m picky as hell so so can you guys post up some pics and recommendations and brands ecf .. I have found several on the net but having a lil trouble finding one “snorkel” designed specifically for my body stile .

Your snorkel options are really limited to two AFAIK, as there is not currently a snorkel made specifically for the 3rd gen (there may be one in Brazil or something but I’ve never seen in here in the states). Either the Tacoma snorkel or the Hilux 167 snorkel. I personally like the look of the 167 snorkel and am currently trying to get a legit Safari 167 snorkel from the land of Oz. Best fitting roof rack is a Whitson but Gobi sued him so they are no longer made. Next best to Whitson is a Baja and they have two styles, flat & basket. I think flat looks good but they each have they practical reasons for being better than the other, but if you’re a fashion over function person then the decision is simple; pick the one that looks the best to you.

For roof racks...The Gobi looks awesome if you can afford it or need something that allows you to walk/sleep up top. I couldn't justify my way to that price tag so after looking around a bit I went with Rhino Racks Pioneer platform. It was still over $500 on Amazon but the range of possible attachments was impressive. I don't have any pics yet but a quick google search should render plenty of them.

As for snorkels...

This is just my opinion and I don't know what your intended use for one is, but Ive read plenty of posts expressing the well founded opinion that if you run your truck through a water crossing deep enough to justify one you are probably damaging it in a long list of ways. You are also culling your potential resale market down substantially as many, myself included, would never consider looking at a vehicle that has one installed due to the possible abuse it has endured.

If you absolutely need to cross water frequently, maybe lifting higher to get elements of the vehicle up and out of the way might make more sense?

X2 for these guys. When it comes time for me to upgrade, this is who I'll go with.

Snorkels, $130 off of Amazon is the way to go. 167 Hilux unless you're able to poop $$$. Then go with ARB.

Thanks guys , as for the questions about what purpose I would be installing these , I like to go out on trail rides ,camping im by no means a hardcore
Wheeler but I would like to throw a air mattress up on top and sleep under the stars . A tint would be awesome up there to keep the bugs & critters out .And
There is the simple fact that I woul Rather have & not need it than need it and not have it , well and it looks bad ass to boot . I have always loved the 3rd gens
But this is my first one ever . I have build some of the baddest import’s on the road today I have a 600 who 94 Mr2 , a 1000 hp Z32 with a RB26 , built the first RB powered Z31 in the us . I don’t point & pay I do my own work and I’m proud of it countless LS swaps , and I’m totally lost on the 5vz-fe never seen one touched one until about 4 months ago and so far I bought 6 I’m luding mine and the one I gave to my mom for Christmas. The others I just cleaned up tuned up
And flipped . But mine is getting a few things by me that will probably be available after I test them my self to see if I can break it . My goal is torque off the line so some new cam profiles and turbo power probably twin really small so I can bring then in to full song immediately so there isn’t that wait wait wait then a sledge hammer punch when they spool.

If you really care about looks, fit & finish then the ARB snorkel for Tacoma is the only way to go. Those cheap snorkels off eBay & Amazon fit & look like crap.

Dont buy anything from Gobi, they're a shit company, sue their competitors & put small Mom & Pop company's out of business. I would go with the Rocky Mountain rack too.

I really like the look of the ARB snorkel. I don't think it works if you have ditch lights though. If it did I'd probably have one regardless of price. The Hilux snorkel isn't bad, but it can't convince me to cut a huge hole in my fender just yet.

Rocky Mountain racks are probably the best option available right now. I've got a Witson Metalworks rack from back when he was in business, but if I didn't have that I'd definitely pick up a Rocky Mountain rack.

Doesn't the ARB also need to go through the fender?

I plan to buy another fender the same colour and cut a hole in that. If I want to take the snorkel off I'll just put my original fender back on. I won't drill into the A pillar, I'll just use double sided tape and also attach it somehow to the roof rack above.

Also I'll do the deck plate mod so normally I wouldn't even be using the snorkel and if I want it due to dust or a river crossing I just put the deck plate back on so it sucks from the shnorkel instead.

Yeah you have to go through the fender for both. I was just saying the Hilux one doesn't make me want to cut my fender right now, but if the ARB one would fit with my ditch lights I would be more open to cutting up my fender.
