Loose factory crossbars??

2016 SR5


My rear crossbar is loose on my roof rack, specifically on one side. This causes the cross bar to ratttle against the rails over bumps.

On the rack, the knob to adjust the position of the cross bar is fully tightened down and locked in position.

There are two screws at each end of the crossbar, each of those are also fully tightened.

I can't seem to figure out what else there is to tighten down to eliminate the rattling!

Any ideas? Thanks

Can you see exactly where it's loose or where there is play? A photo may help clarify as well.

Yep I'll snap a picture tonight. I have approximately 3 or 4mm up and down movement so it rattles pretty loud. Source is passenger rear contact to the rails.

Attached shows the two torx screws fully tightened along with the positioning knob

it's because it's not perfectly square, try to move each side forward and back and adjust them to be square

i had the same problem on my front cross bar that was causing a squeak that was hard too diagnose

This sounds like it could be the cause.

The shortest distance between two points is a straight line. If your crossbar is not at a 90* angle, it's essentially sitting diagonal, which is a further distance, thus causing the crossbar to be unable to snug up.
