Loosing acceleration

On a road trip in Idaho: filled up with gas, forgot to replace the gas cap. When I accelerate (going up inclines) there is a loss of power and a 3-5 sec delay before I feel power return. After about 45 mi. I stopped when someone pointed out the cap hanging. I replaced it, re-filled the tank and I still have the :sobbing::sobbing: loss of power with acceleration.

My thought is that the fuel system was not pressurized causing the loss in power. Now that the cap is replaced why is it still happening and how do I fix the issue? Any help would be appreciated and yes I did a search to no avail.

There should be no correlation between a loose/missing gas cap and power. Just put the cap on and keep driving. You may get a check engine light related to the eval system (since your tank was open to the air) but it should go away after more driving.

The delay going up inclines is most likely just the transmission downshifting and reapplying power. Don't sweat it.

Very possible you picked up water or crud when you filled up. If the station just received a fuel drop this stirs up the crap in the bottom of their tank, and you could have pumped this into your tank.
