Lost throttle response after longer drive

I've had a growing issue for the last few weeks where after a longer trip (an hour plus usually with 75% highway driving), when I get back into the city and am doing stop and go driving, I lose throttle response. I can push the pedal from a stop and I get no response, then after about a second, it comes back. It also happens if I slow down in traffic to under 10MPH and try to accelerate. It was barely noticeable at first, but it's getting worse. I took it to my mechanic early on and he cleaned the throttle body and hooked it up to the scanner while he drove around but couldn't find anything.

The truck is an '01 sport with just under 100,000 miles.

Any thoughts on what it could be?

Possibly your throttle position sensor. Also clean your idle air control valve and try Seafoam. Just a few things that help it run better.

I think the 2001 is drive by wire? Could be the accelerator motor mounted on the Throttle body?

Well, it appears to be a dirty MAF sensor. I had my mechanic hook up his scanner and he got back some erratic readings on the MAF. He cleaned it up real good and hasn't' happened the last 3 trips. So, fingers crossed!

It's back! So that doesn't seem to be the problem. I'm leaning towards TPS but it seems that the '01 requires full TB replacement which is around $1,000. I could get one off a wrecked runner, but I found this on ebay.

I know the big difference between pre 01 and post is 3 pins vs 4. Since this one has 4 pins, do you think it will work? I really don't want to have to drop 1K to fix something that seems so simple....

I would personally try taking it off and cleaning everything with maf or brake parts cleaner first.
