Lots of Rubbing....WTH?

Same tires on my truck. I just let the rear flaps rub- better than taking them off. On the front, had to pound the pinch welds flat and make up some plastic (cut it out of a rubbermaid storage container) and riveted it in place to make my own liners. Chopped body mounts with grinder. No rubbing now.

Can you fully stuff the rear tires into the wheel well without tearing the back mudflaps off? Mine clearly won't even get that far looking at my pictures. What wheels and or spacers are you running?

Haven't ripped them off yet. Don't back up when the rears are stuffed. Running no spacers and 2011 FJ wheels (see my signature below).

The problem with 255/75s is that the stock Jeep Wrangler Goodyear SR-A's run wide for their size so it's deceiving but most 255s only have 7.5 to 7.75" of tread width. So if you run them on a 8.5 or 9.0" wheel they look retarded and don't wear properly.

There needs to be more options in the 285/65-17 size. That would be perfect for us..but I can only find one AT tire in that size and no MTs.

I found that goodyear makes the duratrac in a LT275/65R18 and LT235/80R17 as really close sizes for the truck that are very capable and look awesomely gnarly while still keeping economy on the highway. They are not noisy and depending on what you want to do I dont think these tires have a limitation so far. check out the stuff picture I had from today. I dont have a lift yet but I have been really considering doing a 3/2 lift with fj coils and shocks at all corners. I should be able to do this for around 400 bucks total with used fj parts.

ps. I just noticed that Dereky lives an hour from me lol... I hope I get to see his 4runner one day soon. Maybe we can make up some custom bumpers so it has no rub anymore.

Awesome. I swapped my tires for the 265/70R17. Im liking the slightly softer ride a lot. Had i not gone to a 17x9 wheel a person could have better luck fitting the 285/70R17.
Me and a couple buddies do a little off roading every year. We usually hit the whipsaw once a year near Princeton. We are looking to do a couple trails near Lillooet up Molybdonite Creek, and maybe American Creek and Caroline Mines. Do you do much off roading? If you're interested in joing for a tour let me know. Or if you are up to any trips and can use more rigs let us know.

I'd love to see similar pics with the 285's vs the 265's. I'm torn between wanting to go to the 285 with Toytec Ultimate, but worry about the same issues you had. Are you also getting better MPG?

The height isn't noticeable. You loose 0.5" clearance. The width seems a bit more noticeable.
