Low mileage tires?

I'm looking for new tires but I only put about 7000 miles on my '99 4Runner last year and don't see that changing much. I rarely, if ever, drive off road. I live in Austin, Texas where it's mostly hot, sometimes rains, rarely ices, and just about never snows. Any recommendations much appreciated.

Duratracs. Should be perfect for that area you are in and will last quite awhile at only 7000 miles a year.

Doesn't sound like you need duratracs. An HT tire sounds like it would suit your needs better - although that might be heresy on this site.

Michelin LTX maybe?

Let me know if I've got this right:

C load for better ply.

265/75/16 for bigger look.

I've read great things about the Goodyear Duratracs but don't love the sidewall 'bling.' (sorry)

The Firestone Destination A/T looks good and simple. Has anyone heard bad things about reliability?

Yokohama H/T-Ss are on my truck now and are almost bald. Need new shoes soon.

I bought it mostly for the reliability and the big cab for hauling my business stuff to the farmers' market. I went off-roading once to see what she'd do and, boy, was that fun.
 
I have Firestone Destination A/T's on mine. 265/75/16. This is the second 4Runner I've had them on. They're great. Duratracs are way overkill for your needs. The other decent options I'd suggest would be Hankook DynaPro's & Falken WildPeaks.
 
Michelin LTX hands down.

The tires will last you at least 80K miles if you maintain the air pressure, they are factory siped now and are hands down the best tires I have ever owned (The one's on my 4Runner are the 4th vehicle I have them on).

They are excellent in rain and snow (should you encounter it) yet are super quiet on the road.

I bought a new F-150 a few years back that came with BFG's and it went to Discount Tire on the way home and got a set of LTX's installed with only 13 miles on the clock.

Do I love Michelin LTX's? Yes. Yes I do.
 
The Michelin's are a great tire. But they're on the higher end of the price scale and silly as it may sound, they don't really look like a truck tire.

I agree. I like the AT look of the Firestone without the extra sidewall textures some tires have. And, I like its sharp edge, like the BFG. Thanks for the advice.

I did a quick online price check through the Firestone website and got two different bids. One about $630, another about $600. Same site. I think now is when the phone comes in.
 
If anything the Duratracs seem like the last tire you need or did some of the people suggesting them miss that you don't go off road. Buy a tire with street manners as the priority and maybe with the occasional dirt road excursion in mind. Michelin LTX or maybe the Hankook Dynopros which look good on trucks but is going to give you better pavement performance than an AT like the Duratracs or BFG KOs.

What's the advantage of getting 265/75/16 over 265/70/16?

Will it be a problem that the spare is 265/70/16?

265/75/16 is a slightly taller tire. There are tire conversion charts on line. I think Tirerack.com has one. I don't see having a 265/70/16 as a spare a problem. I wouldn't run it very long if you had to use it.
 
A 75 is roughly an inch larger diameter than the 70 in this case. It's about a 31 to a 32 ish.

I don't see any problem with a P tire for your use. Some P tires are load rated higher than LT C tires and if your use is for hauling mostly people on the road it could be the way to go.
