EDIT: Nvm, looks like you have a 2011 SR5. I have a 2014, so unfortunately I can't be much help. I'm thinking one of those is a GPS chip. [MENTION=92800]mdogg[/MENTION] can you assist?

No sir 11' sr5 but had the trim pkg . I just left it unplugged so far ok . Bought used think guy before had xm & other stuff but I don't need fine using the bluetooth !
Unfortunately, I don't remember what was underneath my OEM one or what was underneath the 8696006030A1 replacement. I'll snap a pic of the OEM version later today to check it out. It will be a few hours, but I'll check it out.
It looks like [MENTION=78968]oljedi11950[/MENTION] bought 86960 02050 (instead of 86960 06030 like mine) - I'm not sure exactly what that part number is for. I remember when I was searching they had multiple versions - for Safety Connect (with/without) and either GPS or Satellite (with/without; perhaps even all combinations).

Sorry, I don't plan on taking it apart again unless there's a solid prospect of replacing it with a low profile unit.

You should be good to go. For 2014-2015 models the extra space is cosmetic. 2010-2013 models there may be a slight issue with either the safety connect or the GPS, and the 2016+ (with the white plastic exterior) doesn't have an alternative yet.

If it makes a difference I didn't loose anything still have radio , bluetooth, & just used it to cover up the hole left it un-plugged ! When & if I want xm for the road just pop it back in !

Look at pic 2. Looks pretty similar to me. I made an offer and they countered with 42. I ended up buying a flat black one with the gray connector. I have the newer style so I was just planning on the internal swap

So I did this today. This project, as with all my other projects, came out to be considerably harder than led to believe. It was a roller coaster of emotion, and as this is a 'safe place' I thought I would share my journey wih you without ridicule or judgement.
The PROs
- I ended up buying a Camry one for 38 as all the othe ones I could find were in the 50-90 bucks. The picture on eBay was flat black, but to my surprise, I got a color matched one in the mail. Obviously it could have easily gone the wrong way but that was awesome.
- I had to swap the internals of the antenna, but once I figured out how to de-pin the connector it was very simple.
The Negatives
- I creased my liner. The nut was considerably harder to remove than I thought it would be. I had to stick an adjustable wrench in there because I didn't have a 21 (or was it 22mm?) wrench. The headliner survived the removal. But not the install. Admittedly my 'give a ****' factor quickly declined as I ended up wanting to just get it done. And I rather have a creased headliner than it not be on tight enough and water creep in.
- Corrosion on the old antenna. There was moisture between the roof and rubber grommet and a very corroded screw and signs of corrosion on the big bolts threads.
I wasn't planning on putting a rack on or anything. I just rent a house with a 1 car garage and the garage door opener has a metal wire on it that is an emergency open cable. I don't use the garage often but when I do I'm paranoid the antenna is going to snag the cable backing in or out and it would rip the antenna off or do damage to the roof.
Corrosion pic
Alllllmost, but no cigar. Had to swap out the internals. Probably could have just swapped connectors but figured my antenna looked in better condition so better keep it all.
Pull the little white clip off with a knife or small flat head. Then gently pull up on the tongue in the center there and connector slips right off.
A few combing passes with the vacuum and the hugely noticeable crease marks are still hugely noticeable.
Finished product.

I'm glad to be done with this mod. Hopefully I don't have any leaks. To call the process of getting my forearms between the headliner and the roof to reach that nut a "b!tch" would be a gross understatement.

I don't use XM radio but use the hell out of HD radio. I assume HD radio still works after this mod? Need to do this so I can get the K9 table to go under my rack...but I'm not willing to loose HD radio for it though.

HD radio comes from the antenna on your front fender, not the sharkfin antenna.
I've talked about the sharkfin antenna having a secondary antenna which is probably used for FM diversity, but it is not the main antenna for FM and should not affect your HD radio stations.
