Lower Grill Lights & Reverse/Side Light Pattern

What light pattern is everyone running who have put the small pod lights in the lower grill...spot or flood? I am pretty sure most go with flood for reverse lighting or side rack lighting, but looking for a definitive answer on that as well.

My future plans include:
(2) 3x3 LED pods in the lower grill, flanking my future winch fairlead
(1) 20" Double Row LED in the upper-front grill, spot or combo
Some 6" single row LED bars scattered about the roof rack for side lighting and reverse lighting (Quantity not yet determined)
and eventually a larger 30"-40" for front mount on the roof rack, spot or combo

I am new to offroad lighting, amongst other things. Any advice is greatly appreciated...

First word of advice, Buy Once! Know exactly what your intentions are for lighting. What you need it for and how you want it to look.

Second, wire everything on your roof ay the same time. If you can't afford all the lights at once, wait. It will be such a hassle to add wiring later. Btw, what rack will you ultimately use?

Just a thought, since you're going to do a 20" bar on the front grill that's either a spot or a combo, maybe you can get 2 flood pods on the lower grill and point them outwards a bit since they are independent. This way you can fill in any of the dark spots (to the left and right) that the 20" bar leaves behind?

Ultimately I hope to end up with the Baja utility rack. Funds are running pretty dry with a newborn, so that will be in the distant future. I am concentrating on the front end at the moment, aside from some additional reverse lighting. My thoughts were similar to yours Eddie about the flood pattern for the lower grill...I am thinking this will be what I go with. Maybe some amber or yellow film to give additional options. The pods are relatively inexpensive, so if I don't like it it won't be a big deal to replace down the road.

Exactly as you recommend, I will not be touching the rack until I can do it all at once.

Just came across this thread trying to find options for different reverse flood lights and side lights. Did you ever get anything? Also, is anybody using a cheaper brand for side lights or reverse floods? I don't think I need anything super expensive since I mainly want a flood I can use to light up a camp area before packing in for the night and stuff like that. Any ideas for what floods to use would be appreciated. I just cant see spending so much on Rigids that will barely get much use.

J/K. I'm going to use cheap eBay 5" or 6" single row floods for side and rear lights, then maybe a "higher end" brand for the fronts down the road. The only Rigids I'll be using are dually ambers in the lower front grill, only because I can find another brand in that size/color that I like.

I agree with this... When I am ready for forward lighting I wont cheap out, but for something simple on the back and sides I cant see spending so much money for something that will barely get turned on.
