Lug nuts for aftermarket wheels, HELP!

Hey guys, I had a hard time searching for this information so before you beat me up.. i did search and came up with very limited info :nono:

So if someone can help me out here is my situation... The truck is a completely stock 2010 limited.

I just picked up my new wheels at the shop today, all mounted and balanced. A beautiful set of all black 20x9 XD addict wheels, with 285/50/20 nitto terra grappler tires.

The shop was closing and could not throw them on the truck so for that disappointment they threw in a set of "free" lug nuts for me. I get home and try to slap these babies on and...the lug nuts barely thread on. I knew something had to be wrong..so I put the stock wheels back on and headed to the forums :sadwave:. Now I'm assuming they gave me the wrong thread pitch or something. They gave me 1/2"-20RH/T

Can someone point me in the direction of exactly what lugs to buy for these wheels (and my truck)? I tried using the stock nuts, and with the built in washer they have, they're too wide.


Also, while I have your attention!! Do I need to use these rings that they have supplied? The guy explained that, these rings go on the inside of the wheel and make it so that the wheel doesn't ride on the lug nuts, rather it sits firmly on the hub. I didn't quite understand, but with the rings installed, the wheels do NOT fit. They only fit without these rings. Sorry if this seems noobish, but what the hell do I do here?

Brock is correct, they are metric (just like everything else on the T4R). The tire shop should have had the common sense to know this.
 
So I did some reading on this.. and what I've come up with is, I will now be running lug centric with these wheels, correct? Is that bad being that the force is applied to the studs rather than the hub? Is this something to be concerned about or should I sleep well and not worry about it? I think I worry too much :lmao:


And Brock, I will never go back to that shop..
 
Yes, lugcentric lug nuts. You will have no issues at all running lugcentric vs hubcentric...And I highly recommend using extended length (e.t.) from gorilla lugs, especially with aftermarket wheels.

You can get e.t. lugs from wheelers off road in chrome or black about half way down the page. You will also need the spline drive socket.

these just add a few more threads of engagement because aftermarket wheels are a little thicker in the lug area, and the 4Runner has notoriously short front studs.
 
No real need for locks anymore. They are so easy to get off and the keys are so easy to obtain that it is not worth it IMO. Save your money and send your insurance company your receipts for their purchase.

Why not do both the locks and sending the insurance company a copy of the receipt? ;)

Speaking of, where do I get black locks Lugnuts?

Absolutely agree. Sounds like a Tire Chain Store (Towne Fair Tire). Had bad past experiences with those uys. Will never go back. Find youself a good independent tire shop. That's what i did.

take them back and have them exchanged for the correct lugnuts.


it might have just been a mistake. you cant really ***** much, they were free.
