Lumen's "G8 LED Headlight Conversion Kit"!!!

If it were me and I had to have LED in this location I'd use a LED as you described above I found the flexiable heat sink that could be passed through a small hole cut on the back of the cap and sealed with silcone.

Just can't see how the OP is going to get the cap back on and seal the headlight....

Here they are, with cap off and then cap on. I understand that having the cap on could generate an issue, just as having it off can. I will be calling the manufacturer to find out more on why they are selling these for a 2016 4Runner specifically when clearly these vehicles have light housings.

I can see where issues may arise from heat failure due to recirculated hot air in enclosure.
That's why some manufacturers used heat sink materials.

That said like Saker said I'd be concerned about heat build up as heat is the #1 enemy of LED's. This is why light bars have huge heat sinks across the entire back of them.

This type of (not technically HID / LED) that uses a external driver (like a HID ballast) makes tons of heat... just one look at how bright these are off two diode can tell you that.

I just got off the phone with the manufacturer, after explaining to them about the housing our trucks have for the projectors. He said, and I quote:

"These lights are designed to be a plug and play feature for your trucks, they are also designed with a rubber gasket (orange) that will prevent any type of condensation or water from entereting the projector lens. Do not place the cover back onto the housing after installing the LED's as the fan will not be able to cool the lights."

So, as I thought originally. I will more than likely just be drilling a quarter sized hole behind where the fan rests so that I have both circulation and some protection from water entry.

So, what I stated holds true... as your quote states:

So, I would just check when running them for 5 minutes just how hot they get with the enclosure (with quarter sized hole) on vs without enclosure.

If you had a infrared heat instrument that would be ideal to check temps!

While the gasket might prevent moisture for entering the actual projector, with the cover eliminated or vented wouldn't that allow moisture and dust into other parts of the light housing?

If you ever run some dust Forrest roads behind anther rig you could eliminate the use of your lights quickly.

Ok just answered my own question as I thought more about it.

The answer is yes.

When I first did my HID install into the projector I didn't get one if my covers on all the way... I found condensation inside the light across the top ridge of the light all the way from the high DRL to the corner light....

Once I realized the cover was as not on correctly, I removed it, dried out the light and reinstalled. I've never had the issue again.

That said I just double checked, and without that cover there is air access to the rest of the light housing...

So be prepared that if you run a vented or no cap, I'm willing to bet you will regret it.

My advice would be to return these and swap them for the same for your high beam and run a HID in the projector to eliminate any intrusion issues as described above.

I think you will be very happy with that route as many of us have already gone and swear by.

RIght on, bro, bro! I totally agree with you and verified that it very well could create condensation in other areas aside from the projector. An issue i am NOT AT ALL whilling to create. I will be looking to return these and look into some HID'S. I appreciate the help from all and will keep everyone posted. Cheers!!! :usa2:

Yeah, I could see why you could put the cover back on with yours. There's no fan on the back of the Bulbs like mine have. Let me know how it works out for ya. Post some pics ����

I'd be curious to see the light output in our projector housing with this set up. Given two LED diodes vs a full spectrum bulb style (HID) or standard halagon bulb.

The 4Runner projector was designed for halagon, and while many of us have used HID in them, reflectors and projectors are specific to the intended light source.

You could get hot spots or even dead spots in the beam pattern.

Then again who knows maybe it will be the cats whiskers!

I checked out their website and put in the 4Runner info I notice they have a projector bulb as an option as well. The picture on the site for that bulb looks shorter.
 
They look eerily similar to these from DDM Tuning but at a (much) higher price:

How long have you had these installed and have these DDM performed? I am a little cautious because these only have a 2 month warranty and the Lumen kit has a 5 year warranty. Also did you do both high beam and low beam?
