making a U Turn to jump the curb

what can be done in a situation when you gotta make a U turn but theres a curb and the road is icy/slippery

and say are just driving in high 2 ... then for obvious reasons you wanna put it in 4h but since you cant make a full turn in 4h are therefor stuck having to just do it in 2h ?

Make the turn with out 4hi or 4lo then shift it in to 4hi or 4low jump the curb disengage the 4wheel drive and be on your merry way.

One full turn on 4H slippery or not over a curb at reasonably slow speed would not break anything. Another matter when it's done habitually and at high speed.

You may need to come to a complete stop , air down all 5 tires (yes, even the spare) to 4 psi, look thru access hole to make sure you are lined up slightly off to head on to the curb, put it in 4H, once 4H is locked in, place in S1 and dump the clutch!
That should work.

damnit OP. I was out driving and tried making a U turn as you asked in your original post. dry conditions though, in 4H over a curb in a rural are for the hell of it. broke the front axle due to no slippage and had to get towed to toyota....

damage from curb jump. used my wife's 4runner of course because testing things on my own rig doesn't make sense
