T4R forum patrons just can't win for responding to existing threads, yet posters get flamed for starting a new thread on an existing topic, and are excoriated to "USE THE SEARCH" if they don't. Looks like Vrrooom used the search, as I doubt he ran across this 4-YO thread by simply browsing the forum.
Which way is this forum going to go with? Let's be consistent with our excoriations at least! I guess calling people out is fun regardless - thus it runs rampant both ways (I guess I'm also calling someone out in the end! So shame on me, too!!!).

Anyways - I also applied a good deal of deadening to my T4R - it helped a great deal. ESPECIALLY the doors and the door handle sound. I was completely turned-off by the stock T4R "Clung" when opening/closing the door. NTM the 4KW audio system also benefited greatly from deadening (primarily the 9" midwoofers in the front doors). I also sealed up the rear tailgate, but neglected to rip out the headliner (can tell the roof would benefit from deadening just by the sound of rain hitting it).

I am not a big fan of Dynamat but I am a fan of sound deadener. Before i took the time and effort to locate specific sound deadener, I used 30 lb felt paper on two different vehicles under the carpet only. Gave me some thermal barrier and a slightly noticeable sound reduction. I've also used a competitor to Dynamat the interior of my truck and a Honda Accord. The Honda got full trunk treatment and doors/under carpet. Made a huge difference on road noise. The truck got much more and so far has doors, rear deck and ceiling. One of these days I'll pull the carpet out and do the floors. Makes the truck much nicer.
I used something called E-dead but am not certain it's not made any more. It was half the price of Dynamat easily, and I think it's almost as good if not just as good. One day I'll get brave and do the doors on the runner and possibly even pull the carpet and do the floor. But honestly my Limited may have more deadener than a SR5 because it is fairly quiet.

While I agree this forum is inconsistent about how we treat new questions/old replies. In this case I think an issue could be what was the intent of his reply? If you bring up an old thread there should be a question in it or at least a “I did this with X results etc” I have no preference either way and I actually like reading some of the older threads that were before my time and things I would not normally have searched for and it may spur more conversation.

I did a search and had a few threads open in separate tabs and didn't realize this was from 2010. I responded to add to the thread and keep conversation going as I'd like to see more people's experiences. Had I known the thread was already 4 years old, I may not have responded or would have very differently.

Sound Deadening the 4Runner
Finally started tackling the road noise in my 2012. I started with the front doors and will add pictures as I go through the process for anyone who's interested.
I went with the Noico 50mil and 80mil deadener

I also made a short video with the non-deadened passenger side and deadened driver side. It may not be audible, but the difference IRL is pretty awesome. Nice solid feel and no tinny sound.

I believe I used a box of 50mil for the two front doors. I just used the 50mil on the doors, but dropped the 80mil under the hood and firewall areas. 80mil in the doors wouldn't be a bad idea, but keep in mind it does weigh down the doors a bit; really only noticeable when opening/closing on an angle. I'd say 80 on the exterior skin and 50 on internally facing slabs would be pretty good.

Just want to add...
I did 180 sq. ft. in a 4R and 120 sq. ft. in a Taco many years ago.
I still have both vehicles BTW.
When you load up the doors, they close with solid authority with the inertia.
So no need to slam doors anymore to make sure they actually close.

Bought a box on Amazon for like 50$ & then cpl rolls of the "Antman" stuff from Lowes ! Spray can herculiner & sprayed down in bottom of doors ,just did all 4 doors & rear lift greatly improved overall road noise & my no drone Flowmaster delta50 suv muffler :vader:

If it is something like this, good luck. You'll have a mess on your hands in a few years.

It will begin to break down bad in about 3-4 years unless you keep it in a garage on really hot days.
It is made for a roof that is open to air, not sealed inside a hot vehicle.
If it smells on hot days, pop a panel and have a look and give a little tug.
