Suggestions for rear interior door/window switch

Hello, Friends!

I started to do my own DIY rear door interior switch install for both the window and latch release. Needless to say, the information I have is out of date for my 2020 TRDP.

I was following a mix of different threads with [MENTION=317678]UtahRnr[/MENTION]'s post HERE as the lead example for the window and [MENTION=278514]seantrewick[/MENTION]'s post HERE for the door release.

The issue at hand is that the wires listed in the window switch portion of [MENTION=317678]UtahRnr[/MENTION]'s post are no longer present in the W10 wire harness on the rear ECU as he described. His photos are no longer visible but based on his description, the common for the window should be on pin 8 and window up/down on pins 15 and 16.

As you can see, pins 16, 15, and 8 are all empty in my harness.

As for the door release actuator, I can't get it to work either. I found the wires in question from [MENTION=278514]seantrewick[/MENTION]'s post, and my continuity check is good for the circuit, but when testing my switch, it won't close the circuit and open the latch. I think it may be the switch I bought from Amazon HERE since it has a built in LED and therefore requires power.

Before anyone tells me, I am aware of the Ultimate Camping Mod wiring kit sold by a fellow member here, but I wanted to do this as a DIY. Plus, if the wires I need to tap into are missing, his kit won't work.

I'm open to any suggestions, or better yet, a rear hatch wiring diagram for 2020+ models if someone has it online.

Maybe this will help but it will take some effort on your part.

First, find out the part number for the connector that is missing the wires. The part number is always molded somewhere on the connector, but will be very small, so you will need a bright light and/or magnifying glass to read it. Look on the edge just below where the wires enter the connector. The connector part number can also be found from the connector reference number on the wiring diagram.


Second, look up that connector in the Toyota wiring harness repair manual: https://www.toyota-tech.eu/wire_harness_rm/RM06H0E.pdf The wiring harness repair manual will show what repair wires with pins are used for that connector. All you need do is buy the repair wires from your dealer or online and install them in the connector per the instructions in the wiring harness repair manual.

The issue isn't that wires went missing. They weren't included in this version of the vehicle. If the necessary circuitry was missing from the factory, the window wouldn't be operating with the buttons in the center console or on the outside of the door.

Many of the electrical components changed in 2020 when they added the radar, adaptive CC, etc. I think the back window was another change that was made. Without an updated wiring diagram, I don't know which wires to tap into to add my switch. I would rather not dissect the harness and go exploring for my answer since that would be a recipe for disaster.

Do you or anyone else know where up to date 2020+ wiring diagrams could be found? I have googled high and low and come up with nothing but a bunch of 3rd gen stuff.

Any Toyota dealer can look them up on TIS, but most are reluctant to print them out. I've been able to get portions of them from time to time, but it is really hard to talk them into it.

You can pay $20 for a 2 day subscription to the Toyota TIS and download the wiring diagrams (schematics) and other info for your particular model year.
