MandAtaco (Manda4Runner-?) Build Thread

so my question. Why does my driver side touch the backing plate yet my passenger is a bit away with the cable connecting them tight. It's almost like my cable connecting the two is not long enough. I need to get down there and look at them again.

Mine did the same thing. There is an adjustment on the pull handle itself to release some slack in the cable. Pull the center consul and its on the passenger side of the handle. Mine was too tight, almost like it was pulled up a couple clicks. Once I backed it off, the "cams" sat down on the backing plate like they should. There is a procedure in the FSM on how to adjust everything. When I get home I'll see if I can find the page again.

Hey when you build your adjustable pan hard bar what type of heims are you going to use.. I want to do the same thing with a spare pan hard bar I have but don't know how to go about buying the right adjustable heims and size heim.

Sweet taco and 4Runner too. She is coming along quickly!

I haven't done a ton of looking into this. My initial thought was to just cut the factory tube and run one of these: Forged Poly Bushing 1.75" OD with the corresponding threaded bung to weld into the tube. I measured everything out at one point and knew which one would fit; the factory track bar is .120 wall I believe. I’ll probably do some more research into this real soon.

Nice swing out bumper. Can you tell me the metal thickness used and what you used to cut the plate? Any areas that were gusseted? Where did you source the swing out parts?
The main part is 2x4” .120 wall. The frame mounts, which basically cup the frame rails are made out of 4”x .25” strap. All the parts of the bumper that directly support the swing out are made out of 3/16” plate and the side wings are made out of 1/8” plate. The front of the side wings (toward the tires) are tied into the front of the frame mounts to support the side wings.
I got the hinge from 4xinovations, a very nice sealed unit with bearings. If I ever build another one, I’d use the same hinge again.

Wiring wasn't to bad, but I enjoy it. I planned out all my circuits running up to the switches and made me a harness. I wrapped everything with lacing chord and then ran it all at once. Makes for nice under dash electrical runs too.

I did the same thing, best and worst decision ever. It speeds up a lot of the wiring time when I want to add something, but having a bunch of wires that goes to nothing just bugs me lol and now I am running out of places to tuck them :frusty:

Spent most of the weekend working on getting my Puma compressor and 1000watt inverter in the side storage area. I pulled the inner tray out, lined the entire quarter/wheel well in some "poor mans Dynomat", and built some brackets to mount everything on. I think it's going to work pretty well back there.

The inverter and compressor are both switched from the dash. I'll add some remote 110v outlets later but this will get me some power for now. I still need to plumb the air side of the compressor and I'll add a blue sea fuse box and relays back there for lights and such.

I'm not to worried about air movement, I've probably never ran the inverter close to its max capacity (I've only ever heard the fan kick on a couple of times).

When I'm airing up my tires I'll pop the cover open for the compressor. On the trail, once it's built pressure in the system, it will run my locker all day long, so it shouldn't have a chance to build up heat there.

Did you see that guys picture who put a air line to each 4 fenders then attach small hoses to the tires and fill all 4 at the same time. Then right by the compressor he put a valve so he could check air pressure at any instant with out taking hose off any tire and then keep going.

Idk where I saw that.

Did some horse trading today... Found a girl on craigslist selling an 02 2wd 4Runner with an ARB bumper on the front. Contacted her and asked if she would be interested in trading bumpers with me + some cash. A week later she text me back and asked if I would do the swap. You bet ya!

Couple hours later, I have this laying on the floor!

It had been painted some time before and whoever did it did not prep it well, all the silver was chipping off. So I'm in the process of stripping it now and will repaint it Black.

I'm VERY happy about this deal! Even came with 2 Hella lights! And the driveway looked good today too! LOL

I think this is what your talking about, 2wayair, Home. I kinda did something similar in my Tacoma. I had air chucks front and rear, and an airline with a T in it. I could do 2 tires at a time and check the pressure via a gauge on the dash.

My plan with this one is to do something similar. Air chuck on the ARB, and one on the rear bumper... opposite corners. Not sure where I'll put the gauge though.

Hit me up when your in town next, we'll get a couple guys together and meet up! ajonesnv Mgyver1

shootmymime, my folks also live in IF. Idk if you remember taking about that a while back...I should be up there sometime in August.

Been a while since I updated this thread, I have gotten a lot done, even though I've spent a lot of time traveling, and camping with the family recently. I got the ARB bumper stripped down (what a major pain that was) and rattle caned it black. Once I mounted it up, I was able to put my 8" KC HID's on it. Nice to have some light up front now!

I finally finished up the can mount for the rear bumper, so the swing out is all done now! Real happy to get the fluids out from the inside and free up some space.

The front folds down so I can tip the water can 90deg. I'm always trying to find a place were I can set it where it wont fall over and I can rinse dishes etc. Now its in a convenience place off the ground and close to the kitchen.

Moved the scanguage II out of my wife's truck and put it in mine. I just velcro'd it to the steering column, easy to see there. I had it upgraded earlier with X-Guage firmware package, so I can monitor my trans temp in addition to engine water temp.

I've had my 2meter wired in for awhile, but didn't post any pics. Here's a shot of my center console with everything put in. I used a belt clip from my hand held 2 meter for the mic holder, just double stuck to the dash. The dash mount on the right holds my phone, and a short cable connects it to the front of my stereo. I use it for nav, music, etc.

I've got a CB too, not sure if I'm going to install it or not though. Its a small one, fits in the ash tray perfectly. Honestly I hate the dang things, reception always sucks no matter how well I set it up. Most of the guys I run with have completely gone away from them. If I DO need one, I can always run the Midland hand held and mag mount antenna that we use on my wife's rig when were traveling.

My folks got me a set of WeatherTech's for my Birthday back in May, I love these things! They were really nice out at the OverlandExpo this year!

Hoping to tackle the rear end next week. I want to swap in the 861's, put in the pan hard drop bracket, and make some extended sway bar end links. Gonna use the Energy Suspension links as some have done around here with good results.

I know I mentioned before that the 981's weren't cutting it. Here's a side shot of the truck. Just some tools in the back, and the rear bumper with no fluids in the Scepter cans.

As you can see, even before I put any gear in the back, I'm already nose high!

I picked up a Smittybuilt winch at the local 4WheelParts Saturday, they were having a grand opening, and had a pretty decent deal on the 9500lb. Also picked up my second set of Spidertrax wheel spacers. Can't wait to get the wheels pushed out some! Hopefully I don't regret running these, I've went back and forth a bunch on the decision.

How do you like those ko2's? I'm a few days away from pulling the trigger on a set of duratracs or ko2's. I need them mostly for snow, doesn't seem like you'd be able to answer that part of the question though lol.

Yea, couldn't tell ya how they do in snow! LOL. So far I've been pretty happy with them. I've ran mud tires for the last 10 years, so this is something new to me. They definitely have better road manners that the M/T's! I'll really know whether I made the right choice or not once I get them on some sharp rock!

Sounds like you're headed in the right direction!

Nice score on the ARB bumper. Lucky color match on stock bumper but she probably would not have traded otherwise. Looking good!

Yea, I totally lucked out on the bumper. The color between the 00 and the 01 was just a hair off, but she was selling it and didn't care. Total Score!

Got the 861's put on, definitely gave me some rake, but not bad. At least now I'll have some suspension travel for hauling gear/pulling my trailer!

It looks to sit about 2" higher in the rear compared to the 891's. I measured right behind the rear tire on the top lip of my rear bumper. Here's a picture showing a comparison between the 861, 891, and stock.

The Bilstein's are going to be to short now, kinda figured they would be. I only have a couple inches of down travel with the axle at ride height. It should improve as the springs settle a bit, but longer shocks are on the way. I'm going to run factory Toyota FJ80 shocks to go with these.

I also installed the Toytec panhard drop bracket. I went ahead and reinforced it with a 3/16" plate that ties back to frame, this should be plenty strong. The truck definitely feels more "tippy" now, not sure whether to put the blame on the taller stance, or the dropped panhard. I knew going in that lowering the frame end mount would create a lower roll center, but was the "easier" side to adjust. I may play with raising the axle side and see which I like better.

Finally, I put longer end links in for the rear swaybar. I pretty much followed what Nathana92 did on this thread: Longer End links. Seems to work pretty good.
