Manual locking hubs for a 3rd gen ?!!?!

They are different, you won't be able to use your current ones.

And they're slightly harder to find than the far more common ADD shafts. I got some Toyota rebuilt ones when I manual hub swapped mine. It took about a month for them to arrive at the dealer, and then one of them (glad I looked at them both before leaving) was an ADD shaft. Took another month(ish) before they got the second manual CV shaft in for me.

FWIW Toyota accepted my ADD shafts as core returns on the manual shafts.

how long ago did you order manual CV's from your dealer? what part number did they provide you with?//

I have tried to order manual CV's for about a year now from various dealers and they always cancel my order...

I didn't think the guy at Bommarito Toyota was going to find either one, that was early 2022, but somehow he did. I think it was closer to 3 months from the initial order and the second one felt like he pulled a rabbit out of a hat. Of course I can't locate the part number/emails I had on it.

FWIW @ anyone who wants it, the toyota manual cv reboot kit is 04438-04021, both boots, grease, clamps for one side.

thanks for this info!

what do you think the difference is for a reboot kit for a normal ADD CV axle VS a Manual one?..

I don't think there is one. For a factory shaft, the inner, middle and CV portion of the outer shafts seem to be the same, it's just the end of the outer portion that is different.

I had the manual shafts from the donor car when I did my swap, but habanero found Toyota rebuilt manual shafts from Toyota for cheap, barely more than a boot kit IIRC. So I thought it would be nice to have a couple of spare manual shafts with old boots, and a couple of newly rebuilt ones.

Also, the part number for the Tacoma manual shaft is: 43430-04010
But... it's showing up as discontinued on the usual Toyota parts websites. I think Toyota has decided to stop selling these unicorns. They're available in various aftermarket forms, though.

None of the stronger and/or more flexy shafts made for 4Runners or Tacomas seem to be for manual hubs, since it's such a niche item.

Rock Auto has some cheap ones: 1997 TOYOTA TACOMA 2.7L L4 CV Axle | Shop Now at RockAuto

The 4Runner ADD boot kit is 04438-35060 compared to the
Tacoma manual boot kit 04438-04021. You know what assume means, but that's what I'm doing, assuming they are different mostly because of the different part numbers.

I poked around my parts pile and found one of each. The cv for manual hub is oe, but unfortunately the cv I have for add is aftermarket. Because of that I don't know that any joint measurements (they are a little different) would be any good.

The inboard 4Runner add vs the tacoma manual joint come apart differently.

Ignore the long state of the inboard boot on the add hub, I'd done a boot stretch on it. The cv with blue is the manual...

And that was a whole lot of words to say I don't really know.

Edit: Looking at the individual joints, the tacoma inboard are still available for a lot of money, both styles of outboard tacoma joints are discontinued, the 4Runner add joints are different part numbers.
As best as I can tell via Toyota parts catalog , the early tacoma boot kit is the same for both tacoma add and manual hub. I don't really have a chassis number, did some guesstimation.

Compatibility is tough to figure out since the Taco was never built in Japan and the 4Runner was never built in the US - so there are often different PNs for compatible parts. Of course, there are also often differences that you wouldn't think should be there too. Hopefully you guys can figure it out!
