Mechanic special '01 S/C, 5 speed, 4X4 4Runner!

I ran across a nice looking '01, 5 speed, supercharged, 4X4 built up 4Runner with only 180k miles. Says he blew a head gasket. Body and interior look great! For someone doing the work, they could have a nice 4Runner. If I'm not mistaken, it may have the factory rear locker as well. Can't see the button clear enough. It could just be the transfer case lock, or whatever that is button. I had it on my '02 TR4, but it's not on my '00.

Kinda of a cool truck. More of a "look at me truck". Not a good idea to prove how fast you can be without adding fuel upgrades with a supercharger.

Not a e-locker. Fair price. Glade it's not cheaper & with an e-locker, I would have another project.

I noticed that the 4 wheel drive indicator was not in the center of the instrument panel. My '00 and '02 had the same gauge layout.

Looks like a nice rig, but it's not an '01 unless he did the 5 speed and front end swap. 5k is a great deal if it really is just the head gasket.

Looks like a nice base rig. I bet it was an incredibly clean rig with a color matched grill and bumpers when he got it. Probably no lift. I'm betting the PO did the R150F swap.

What you described is a 2000 4Runner SR5, which I am certain this is, also because Desert Dune Metallic isn't offered after 2000.

Yep, you're 100% right. I didn't know the 2000's had the big flares without body cladding. First "2000 SR5 4Runner" Google image search was a Desert Dune with big flares and no cladding! That's my favorite combo(the big flares/no cladding- not the DD color).

It's that misunderstood year. You have the 1999 Highlander bros fapping to their super tall but already sagged coil springs on one end, and the 01-02 guys who think their center diff lock is the rear locker on the other end.

If so, that sucks. Mine is a '02 Sport and I was thinking if my trans ever dies I'm swapping in a 5 speed. I thought aside from the transmission itself the only other thing that got replaced was the driveshaft, because it was a little shorter on one side (don't remember which).

you need a lot more than just a transmission to do a swap... havent done one on a 4runner but in general you need the transmission, driveshaft(for some trucks), ecu, pedal assembly, some trucks use a different crossmember for auto/manual, and other odds and ends. there is a lot more to it than just "remove the auto trans and install a manual"

That is just one of the upgrades done to the T4R by the owner. Nothing required for a manual trans swap.
