Speaker Upgrade

My stock speakers held out well for the 12 years of use but it was time for them to go. I'm not an audiophile but I do appreciated some decent equipment when I want to crank it up.

I decided to go with a set of 6.5" Pioneers 4-ways in the front and a set of 5.25" 3-ways in the rear. Head unit update to come.

Awesome man, the 4Runner is coming along great! I agree with your tail-light selection, just updates the look of the rear a little bit while still making it look semi-stock. I like the 3-wheel pics too!!

What did you do about the Monroe lift struts? I just ordered those (after mixed reviews) because mine are shot. Did you return them or find something else?

Any pics of the herculined cargo area? I helped a friend do that to his International Scout, but haven't seen it on a 4Runner.

:thanks: The struts are currently still on my rig but I need to yank them off and send them back. I'm still searching for a stronger alternative.

I'll get some pics up of the cargo area in the next couple of days. Been meaning to do so but just haven't gotten around to it.

If you can try them and return if they don't work give it a shot. Mine didn't workout but perhaps you will have a different experience.

Thank you for the compliments! The speakers worked out great. I didn't want to go crazy with subs...etc so the 4-ways in the front and 3-ways in the back really cleaned up the sound. I'm putting in a new HU soon.

Picked up parts to rebuild the front end and swap over to some Taco parts where applicable. OTRE & ITRE, LBJs, CVs, Poly Sway Bar Bushings and a steering rack guide overhaul coming soon! :reddance:

That's the good part, the bad part is the need for some butt cream after the financial raping.:crybaby:

CV Axle Replacement

My luck on stretching the CV's for a little more mileage and abuse finally ran out while doing some mild wheeling. :dammit:


While I was replacing the blown CV on the passenger side I opted to replace the drivers side as well. :nerd:


Also went ahead and switched over the LBJs, ITREs, OTREs to Taco parts. :hungry:



It's hard to believe how much play was in those old worn parts. The steering linkage is tight and crisp just like when it was factory new! :bigok:

Now you have to tackle the sway bar link bushings (last pic).

Thanks! It took about 4 hours at a very leisurely pace. A friend of mine let me use his lift.

The sway bar link bushings definitely could use some attention. I'm considering building a set of quick disconnects and beefing up the front sway bar due to the amount of on-road driving I do.

Any chance you have part numbers for the Taco components? Great build so far by the way.:driving:
