after trying to figure out where to go all weekend and going back and forth with several places we finally decided on hitting up Frank Raines Ohv in patterson for the last day of the wheeling season there (they close june 1 thru the fall because of fire season) it was a pretty simple drive (about 90 mins from walnut creek) the weather was perfect at 84 degrees and clear blue skies!
today was just a easy day since we were solo (my girl and i) so i didnt really push myself too much. i also wanted to iron out some kinks and figure out what i need to tweak before the BBB vI.
so far before BBB i need to install:
Wheelers Super BumpStops
ToyTec 1/4" top spacer
SS Brake Lines
Rear 1" revtek spacer
Speedohealer
Fix Faulty Compressor Airline
Install All New Rear Links (uppers,Lowers,Panhard) these should be ready this week sometime
i also wanted to play around with my lockers a bit today since i havent had the chance yet and oh man were they fun!!!
it sure is alot different with lockers, so much more power and grip, i just crawl up hills soo easily now. i still am not comfortable with rutted out steep hills climbs though. i tried a few there but they just make me uncomforatble especially when they kinda direct your truck in different ways because of the rutts, anywho there were a few steep climbs that made me very nervous and i think ive dont enough of those to know that its not really my bag!
frank raines is a nice little park and i do mean little, its alot smaller than hollister for sure. i didnt want to deal with hollister being packed today so thats why i came here. we had a really nice day though. there was only 1 other truck there and it was a 1st gen 4runner, other than that we were all alone! we spent about 4 hours there and that was plenty of time to cover everything a few times. my favourite part of this place was all the streams and water crossings. there are a few where you can actually drive upstream in a couple feet of water and navigate through the brush, it was really fun, kinda like a little jungle.
i would recommend coming here is you just want a mellow day of wheeling. one thing to be careful of is it is mixed use motorcycle and 4wd. so they trail difficulty signs are meant for dirt bikes and definately not trucks!!! i went up a few blue square trails that seemed intermediate then it got to a super steep hill climb that was definately expert!!! i went up halfway but i was kinda tripping out cause it was very rutted so i turn a turn off and came back. so please be careful if you go there. tons of secluded spots to get in serious trouble!
