how much wight do you think you have in just the back?

Ill put it this way. Between my bumper with tire carrier and a 33 inch tire on the rear, plus a cooler, a bunch of tools, aircompressor/jumper box, and a hi lift. I would say at least 500 pounds at the least. but mine hasnt started sagging one bit and is still pretty stiff as can be and still flexes way good with the sway bar on and extended links. So i cant complain really at all with it.

i have a full size 33" spare and a tool box and three 10" subs in a big heavy box with a few amps and a shit tone of sound deadening material all over and a custom made bumper that is supper heavy compared to the stock bumper. i have not weighed any of these things but i can only estimate.

Because if there is one thing that LC coils are known for, it's sagging with load. Yes a Landcruiser is heavier, that's why using their coils adds so much lift. However, throw 500lbs on the front bumper of an LC and it's going to start sagging. Do the same to the rear of out 4Runner, same thing will apply.

Your CBI Hybrid bumper, according to CBI, only weighs about 150lbs. Figure about 70lbs (on the heavy side) for your spare, and you're at 220lbs of weight in the back, which is 280lbs short of where Merlin thinks he is. Unless you have an INCREDIBLY heavy set of tools and recovery gear, you have nowhere near 500lbs of extra weight in the rear of your 4Runner.

I challenge you to toss 280lbs of crap in the back, and see how those 8 wraps are treating you after an offroad trip. I will (this is dangerous) guarantee you that they will have very noticable sag, unless perhaps they're brand new. If they're brand new and you're carrying that sort of weight they're going to wear out very quickly.

I run OME 861s, which are an HD LC spring, and they actually sag a small amount with ~500lbs on them.

For reference my ~500lbs comes from:
150lb bumper, 75lb spare, 16lb jerry can (it's a small one. Cute, I think), 32lb jack, 120lb roof top tent, 100lb cooler, 50lb storage drawers with about 40lbs of recovery stuff in them.

So that's closer to 550lbs I suppose. However, if that's making 861's sag a little, you can bet that they will make 8 wraps sag A LOT.





Sorry for the long post, and I hope I didn't come off as a pompous a-hole. Not my intention. I just wouldn't want Merlin buying LC coils and regretting it, as he would if there is really 500lbs of weight on his rear.

Highly recommend OME 861's though. They're great if you want that kind of lift.

haha no you didnt come off that way no worries. I was just curious to see your explanation on it was all... I guess me knowing and having actually have seen what is in the back of his runner seems more comparable to what i have in the back of mine when out wheeling... weight wise that is.

Ya I dunno then... But mine are still plenty fine so even if I don't have that much weight I'm pretty sure merlin will be fine... But I guess time will tell

I don't have any pics handy of my crap all loaded up and I forgot that I also have a 125lb RTT up top but I usually have an 80lb dog, probably 75lb 105qt Yeti cooler loaded with ice and beer, 40lbs of tools and maybe another 50lbs of gear and as you can see in this pic I've got some pretty good reverse rake going on. I don't think I've got my coilovers cranked all the way up to 3" up front and unloaded I usually have 1.5" of rear rake. Not sure what the dilly is with your springs but LC springs don't hold weight well at all, and it's not just my springs I've seen a lot of other trucks with the same issue going on. I'm on the hunt for 861s right now that might be overkill for Merlin though.
