The flip key fob is not a big deal...have both types, my 4Runner key and my Toyota IM key is a flip fob. The flip fob jabs me in the leg more than my 4Runner key cause the button on the flip fob is always getting pressed in my pocket, depending on what I am doing. It opens up and next thing you know you have a huge key in your pocket sticking out. If it has the same functions I would just stick with the regular 4Runner key, no sense switching over unless you have run out of mods to do...lol.

I love my AJT but its beat to hell, honestly if they still had the TRD logo on the back (or even just nothing at all) instead of AJT I'd probably have just bought another one of those.

Have any of you guys got your MESO keys cuts yet? Tried Home Depot and ace hardware today, both couldn’t do it because of the chip?
Will try the locksmith down the street from my work tomorrow. I got a brand new AJT quicksand and used cement (both with original TRD logo on back) for sale if anyone is interested.

Thanks for the feedback on the places you tried to get cut. I was hoping to see who was successful from what shop before I purchase one.
Behind the key, is it blank and unbranded? Or does it have the Mesa Custom logo?

That makes no sense at all. The chip has nothing to do with cutting the key. The “chip” is not imbedded into the metal the actual key is made of.

You are lucky they would not attempt to cut your key.
PSA: DO NOT get keys cut at Home Depot, Lowe’s, Ace, or any other hardware type store. They do crappy work and if they F up your key you’re SOL.
Early this year I went to a HD to get 3 keys cut for car door entry only, no chip in the key. I tried them in the parking lot before leaving and of the 3 only one would open the door. I went back in, they cut two more, and they both finally worked. This also happened when I went to a Toyota dealer to get one door-only key. It took them two tries to get one that worked. And this was using the Toyota digital key code which should make a perfect machine-cut key. It failed the first time.
It’s best to go to a real reputable locksmith and explain that they have to get it right the first time. You do not have a spare MESO fob to try again.
I’m curious to know if the key will have to removed from the fob in order to be cut? Will you repost after you visit your locksmith please

There’s a set screw holding the black key in the flip mechanism, there’s an Allen key included in the tin can so I took them out just in case.

Has nothing to do with the chip, you'll have to remove that yourself. However I had to go to the dealer to get a copy made for my 4th gen

I already have my stock keys taken apart cause I currently have the AJT fobs, I even took it apart and gave them just the key because we thought the machine was detecting the chip and it sill wouldn’t cut it.
How much did it run to get the dealer to cut it?
