There are loads of threads on here about different antenna replacements and fixes, the most popular obviously being the taco whip mod. As a struggling (broke) college student i couldn't justify the price for that, or replacing my broken motor. So after some looking and thinking i went with a Metro Manual Retractable Antenna, so i thought i would make a quick write up to share my thoughts since i haven't seen much anything about Metro or manual antenna replacement on the forum.
I decided i still wanted an antenna that retraced, since i only listen to radio in town and not on the freeway. It also is handy for some trails i run. With some research i found the antenna online. Its a four section, manual retractable, stainless steel antenna and was $25 shipped to my door.
I followed the instructions for the taco whip mod for the replacement, it was exactly the same. I also used the stock rubber pieces, nuts and grommets instead of the ones provided, the stock ones are more stable and look better.
The main point on my writing this is to say that i had no problems with fitment, installation, or signal quality. It doesnt come with instructions, but it was easy to do and anyone could do it. It looks factory and meant i could bypass dealing with electronics. And it was very cheap comparatively. It only took me 30 minutes to do start to finish.
