Mickey Thompson Deegan 38 AT (new 2017)

Looking for input on this tire, whether personal experience, online reviews, etc.

Haven't had much success finding reviews, or feedback from anyone that has put them on a 3rd gen.

Looking for a tire that is light, handles vey well on road, quiet but that still looks aggressive / off road capable. Other options I've considered are Toyo OC2, BFG K02, General Grabber AT2... all are great options but the last two are quite a bit heavier (52, 53.5 lbs), and the toyo's deal breaker could be the looks (with exception of heavier Extreme series). I have winters so I don't need snow/ice capability.

The Deegans are the lightest AT I've found, that still seem aggressive.

I'm coming from 265/75/16 Geolanders ATS (D load range) which are great handling (sporty) on road/wet but a bit heavier then claimed weight of the Deegans, and they are getting noisy with more then half the tread left, and tend to hold stones.

I have some concern that the Deegans will be much harsher riding being E-rated. However, being lighter then what I have, I'm hoping that's not the case.

Which is probably why he can't find reviews on the tires. Bro's want mud grapplers or toyo's.

I'll be running them black letters out, so I don't really care about the tire name, I'm certainly not interested in them for that reason.

I would prefer not to have someone's name famous or not stamped on my tire, but I'm willing to overlook that if they fit my needs :zoom:

Cooper Discoverer AT3 is supposed to be a good tire and is light weight. Not as aggressive as the 38's but priced well. I almost picked up a set before I decided to go to 35's.

I love Mickey Thompson tires. I had around 40k on a set of their original MTZ's back in the day. Rotated them every oil change and balance them every 3rd or so rotate. I have the ATZ P3's now and I love them.

I don't have any experience with the tires you're wondering about, but MT makes some great tires.

Another vote for Mickey Thompson tires in general. I have had the Baja MTZ 285s and have been very impressed. When these finally wear out I will buy the Baja MTZ P3s. The Baja MTZs that I run are no longer available.

I would take a chance on the Deegan 38s. My tires are E rated and the ride and noise level are much better than I originally anticipated. The MTZs are mud tires, but they ride more like all terrains.

I will probably never buy another tire that is not a Mickey Thompson... that is how strongly I feel about them.

Have a set of Deegan 38's (285/70/17) on my 4R with about 5Kmi on them.

Ride is quite, but yes...they are little stiffer than Id like but not to the point where I'm annoyed. Daily commute is 50mi RT, 95% freeway. Had them in the dirt a few times with no complaints there.

Honestly went with them for a two reasons: MT had rebate going at the time and 55Kmi life. With road hazard from 4WP I was out the door for like $225 tire.
