Mid travel questions

So this isn't quite like the all too typical lift question. Ultimately I don't want to lift more than I have to. What I want is more travel, which I don't think the average lift really does. I don't think I want a long travel because I don't really want to increase my track width, not to mention it doesn't seem like you can feasibly do LT in the rear, or the extra stuff needed, and the added cost.
I plan to dd my truck, and I'm going to be turning it into a family camper that can wheel anywhere. I plan on making a trailer to haul dirt bikes with a utility truck bed type deal, but that's getting off topic...
Anyway, as stated I want more travel for a better ride and to keep the tires on the ground better. Wouldn't mind lifting a couple inches, but don't want to go over 3. Bigger tires would be nice, but I'm not too worried about it. A well setup truck can go much further than a truck with just lift and tires.
What all would I need to be able to run some 10-12" travel shocks and use that travel? I know there are control arms that add travel, but I believe those add width and are more for LT than MT? Is there enough adjustment in the camber for it? Could see the tie rod ends not being long enough maybe? I'm sure I'll at least have a problem with the panhard bar, and I'll probably make real links for the rear. Can make shock hoops as well.
Don't need an all out desert racer or anything, just an improved suspension setup...
