Might be purchasing this 3rd gen - need thoughts

Hey all, so I've been searching for a stock 3rd gen with an e locker for a while. I've had a 3rd gen before and a few 2nd gens so I kinda knew what to look for.

I went and looked at this truck:

Everything checked out perfectly. It drove unbelievably well, an the interior is in great shape. it has all of its maintenance up to date with receipts and the underside is fairly clean (hard to find in BC Canada)

Now the kicker is that it was in a front end accident not to long ago. Here is a pic Of the damage

Got any closeup pictures near the damage?
IS the front wheel look straight? I see it has gone in from the top. this might be tough to correct.

According to the extent of the damage, I would slide under the truck and inspect very well.

I'm no expert, and I don't know what they usually go for in your area necessarily, but I wouldn't be paying anywhere near 6 grand for it with that kind of front end damage. If you pay someone to get 'er looking up to snuff (maybe you plan on doing it yourself, I don't know) my guess is that you would be shelling out at least another couple grand.

If it drives well though, interior is nice, maintenance is recorded (what do you know about timing belt and water pump?) and has an e-locker, that is a fairly rare find. I'd probably offer up around 4k and not go much higher, but that's just my opinion, and that's relative to prices here in Ohio to boot.

Just to clarify, the truck has been fixed and fully repaired properly

He's asking 5800. We settled on 5600 and he is putting in a brand new battery as well as new rear axel seals.

Because of the accident it has all new front end parts.

Timing belt/water pump won't need to be done for another 40k km's. And the brakes were just replaced. All fluids are good and clean. Both front and rear diffs were re greased with new seals.

so is that a 99, 4wd w/locker? If so, great price! Gonna leave her stock or mod it up?
 
I wouldn't be concerned about that damage as long as it was fixed properly. I might confirm what shop it was done at, to make sure they're reputable. But if it was done right, the newly repaired and painted front end would be a plus in my book. The paint on my hood is messed up from the PO letting bird crap eat into the clear coat, so a fresh coat on your used truck is a nice thing imo.
 
i'm looking locally too! Just make sure the wrong bumper isn't a sign of cheeping out elsewhere (if that was the case). But if it was done right this would be worth about 2 grand without the title. Do you know what shop did the repairs?
 
If it was me, I would steer clear of this one. Look at the trim under the headlights on the passenger side and where the fender meets the door. The body panels are all bunged up. Coupled with the fact that it's missing the bumper flares, it looks like it was a quick fix. I think for that price, you can do a lot better.

yes as of now it does have rebuild status.

bc toy , kymo and jc12 . you guys should check out BC 4runner on facebook and also BC Toyota 4wd

truck is getting fully inspected on Saturday. hopefully it checks out ok. when I buy a 3rd gen (if its this one or another) I do plan to lift it
 
Maybe I'm crazy but the third picture of the passenger side of truck as posted in the craigslist ad, I can see the blend paint job on front passenger door. The passenger head light and trim looks askew too. Anyways like posted above, not sure what prices are in your location but seems like they are asking too much. Pay close attention to the drive end components, the passenger front wheel looks like the camber is off a lot in accident photo. Tough call - if you cold get a lower price and this is a side project good. If this is a daily driver with 3 car seats in the back you're possibly asking for problems ahead. I like that they shared the accident photo with you - shows they're not hiding things from you. Check the tranny fluid for strawberry shake.
 
I got into a front end accident last year, that didn't look anywhere near as bad as that. The impact was only around 20mph. But the amount of headache it caused was unbelievable. Ended up replacing almost everything in the front end on the side I got hit on. I wouldn't buy that for anything over 3,500. If theres any front end damage your gonna end up spending a pretty penny to get it back working. Even after it has been fixed. I find most mechanics that fix these cars after an accident, especially those that go through insurance, end up using already old parts, that came out of the junk yard. I'ts cheaper for the insurance company that way. Thats just my opinion though. So if you got the time and the money go for it. Otherwise I'd keep looking.

Thanks for all the honest input guys it's been a great help!

After all suspension/front end parts were replace, it did have an alignment done also.

And no signs of the strawberry milkshake.

There are others for sale like this up here in canadia, but they generally sell for a pretty penny
