Might have to trade it off...ridiculous

Will do boondoggle. Thank you for the link. If blackworks comes back and says he thinks we can tackle it then I'll start looking for schematics and I will do a walk through with a lot of pics. I dont have to send the old one in for the core either so I will have a lot of fun tearing it apart to determine how it works.

Sounds like you got a abused truck that wasn't taken proper care of. :bash: sorry man, I had to replace my tires, caliper, and a few other odds and ends before I owned it a year.

I guess it is possible that she was abused. I dont know who exactly the owner was or how they drove it. It is extremely clean underneath even in tight nooks so I know it wasnt driven off-road hard at least. The car fax did show that maintenance was was regular and done by reputable places. Like I said before it's a crapshoot. plus she is getting towards 150k. Stuff does go bad after a lot of miles hopefully after this It will be worry free for a while

Its not overly complicated to replace the unit. If you can fit under your dash you should have no problem getting it out. Its pretty straight forward. The only issue you will run into is bleeding the system afterwards as that requires a Factory or factory capable scantool to actuate the ABS/VSC solenoids to bleed the system. Traditional pump and hold will not effectively clear the lines of air.

I will see if can get you a .pdf from TIS, lately they've been getting stodgy on letting you save their .pdf's but I'll give it a shot anyways. There is also a 8-ish page section on tearing down just the Hydraboost unit. I also made a thread on how to tear the unit down if you want.

Guess I should have searched :rtfm: As far as getting the scantool...that might be a tough one although the friend that will be helping me works for DOT. I do not know a lot about scan tools and what not so I will just have to ask him about it. The assembly I bought is said to be a complete unit but ofcourse I will not know until I see it. Can you tell me what I will be disconnecting from under the dash? Brake switch and bolts? Thanks in advance for all your help I truly appreciate it.

Not too sure I'd bash Toyota on this. You've only owned it 4mo, but the vehicle is 8+ years old. There could have been issues the previous owner caused.

Electric motors are notorious for being 100+ times more reliable then a mechanical engine. Something in the previous 8 years could have caused this motor to go prematurely.

I'd also be surprised you can't find an aftermarket replacement part.

As for the warranty. I've NEVER EVER owned an extended warranty and NEVER EVER will. They are a waste of money. Sure you can find someone who's actually saved them..but the vast majority it's a waste. All it is is an insurance policy. A very expensive insurance policy. And insurance companies know this. That's why companies like State Farm, Geico, All-State have spun off separate entities for auto-extended warranty underwriters. And these are usually their highest profit divisions.

I could not agree with you more... Buying extended warranty is a waste of money or at least from a probability stand point. When I bought my 4runner about 3 years ago they wanted to sell me extended warranty for 3 years for $3000. I said "what?" That amount is just insane. Besides this is a Toyota. Insurance companies would not make money if frequency of repairs and cost of repairs consistently exceed the amount they get from you. They have it all calculated.

If I remember correctly, the securing bolts are located on the engine bay side of the firewall, unplug the connectors. Under the dash you need to remove the brake switch, pin & clip securing the brake pedal to the master cylinder push rod, and I think maybe one other thing that escapes me at the moment.

Just thought I would give you an update on this. I just picked of my baby from the shop about an hour ago. I personally talked to the mechanic and he said getting the old one off was a pain in the arse because of having to get underneath the dash. I also got the mechanics name and info and he is willing to make a statement to go with my case I am putting together against my 3rd party warranty company. I have only driven it like 5 miles but man what a difference. The pump is very very quiet for one, I only heard it come on once after driving around the block and sitting in the parking lot depressing the brake numerous times. This included an ABS test in a snowy parking lot. So far so good no lights and the brakes feel good. Hopefully I'm done messing with this issue...if not atleast the part and the work is "really" warrantied. I started this thread thinking I was going to have to trade in my 4 runner. Thanks to a little research and all of your advice..I get to keep her! I dropped 1,000 dollars on this repair but she is worth it. Thank you all very much. If I ever get the chance to meet any of you I will buy you a beer.

Glad to hear it. Would hate to see you give up a toyota with bad taste in your mouth. Hopefully it will remain rock solid from here on out. Give warrarty company hell!

Glad to hear you got it taken care of for much less than originally quoted by the Toyota place. Hope that's the last thing you have to do for a while.

I'm glad it worked out for you in the end, even the tech stepping up to help you out was awesome.

Thanks, Yeah I think it is awesome too. He is the one who first diagnosed it. Seems like an honest guy. Now if I can just get my daystar installed I'll be a happy camper!

That's the spirit! Time to start enjoying the thing  Also, have you considered getting local media involved? They have crews that go after the company until the company realizes they can't hide and will do what is right. I've seen similar instances get resolved through things like that.

File a complaint with the CIC (Colorado Insurance Commission). Since your Warranty is under written by an insurance company, it is regulated in state of Colorado. I know others that had to do this and the insurance claim went through all of sudden.

Thank you for the tips I will be sure to do that. I tried to call today and was put on hold for 15 minutes before being disconnected. I called back and the exact same thing happened....weird.....lol. I think they must know I am calling them out and plan on following through.
