Hahaha, I had to laugh to myself at the "wiring is calming" statement.... I feel the same way.... nothing like spending the afternoon running some 16ga. and wiring up switches. It must come down to that "Chevy Chase" moment when you are all done, grit your teeth, squint your eyes and flip that switch to see what happens! :wow2:

There was the moment when I hooked everything to the battery and I could hear the relay switching, but the light was not hooked up yet. I yelled out W T F mang. Then I looked inside and saw that the bottom LED was on all the switches and thought that I messed up, but then quickly realized that the switch is flipped to the bottom in the off position. So I flipped all down, hooked up the light then had my Chevy Chase moment.

Mike- What color are the LED's in your Contura switches, amber or red? They look like they match the OEM dash light color spot on.

They are amber/amber. And it matches very well.

Also just got a call from Sandra at GOBI and my rack should be shipping next week. Can't wait.

Opened it up to see...

Ladder and sunroof insert in the box, but the tabs I asked to be welded on were not there. Going to keep this rack and just go a different route with lighting. Mark has already remedied the issue for me. Mark has been awesome through the whole order and would recommend anyone to go through him. Thanks Mark.

Install should be done on Friday, weather permitting.

And sorry folks I already have two people interested in the ladder.

40 Rigid E series up front and two 6" SR series in the rear. I was going to run a Wurton bar up front. Now I am going to go with a 40" VisionX bar up front and get a couple cradles for the rear.

Also need to figure out the STICKER BOMB on the windscreen.

Rigid only goes up to 3 watt LEDs. VisionX has 5 watt and 10 watt LEDs. Probably going to go with the 5 Watt 40" double stack.

5 Watt emitters are the way to go for sure. Having owned both Vision X and Rigid light bars, I can say there are no discernable quality differences, but the output on the 5 watt bars is just insane.

I ended up with 2 of the 18" xmitter prime xtreme bars, the 40" double stack is absolutely insane… saw one in person last month in the desert. Cant wait to see that on your truck!!!:clap2:

Also check out the just released Bajadesigns OnX lights BajaDesigns Truck - Buggy OnX LED Light Bars that are using the latest and greatest Cree XML 6 LEDs . I believe they are over 12 watt a piece at 4.2v and 2.98 amps a piece. They are getting 25,200 lumens out of a single row 51" bar.

I'm thinking of getting the "Squadrons" to replace my PIAA 510's as they would fit perfect down there.
They aren't cheap though being the latest and greatest technology!Where will the LED technology end???

LED's are awesome. I just wish these guys would get away from using the higher kelvin emitters and go with a high CRI (color rendition index) or more natural tint LED. Neutral tint (something around 4300K) isn't as flashy looking as a 5K tint, but sure is nicer to see things with.

Unfortunately the XML is old news, Cree actually has an XML 2 now, brighter and higher efficiency rating. Now if only these light bar mfg's would snag a load of the neutral flux bin emitters like T5's, we would have something amazing.

Or is there a better spot to tap into for a light switch activated source?

Can't remember right now but I think it was the geeen. If you check in the seat heater theead Antman tells me which one is positive.

Alright so not a truck update but more of a commuter to a true daily driver.

The iQ just wasn't cutting it. The nostalgia had worn off and it was under powered for two big adults to commute in. Plus I always felt uncomfotable in it.

The FR-S still gets good gas mileage and it is fun to drive. I got a great deal since this was a rollback. The previous owner lied on the credit application. So I reap the benefits of not buying a "new" car.

And of course I had to keep the same color.

The Rack...

Ok so I took the day to get the GOBI rack installed and not to bad on the scale. Hardest part was finding someone to help get the actual rack onto the truck. I used just about everyones suggestions so I wont go into great detail. But here we go...

First was removal of the stock rack, not hard. I was surprised to see how much crud was under the covers.

As the directions said....little alcohol to do a little cleaning.

All cleaned and put a little silicone around the bolt tubes prior to putting on the first black gasket.

I also put a small amount of silicone onto the bolts for further seal, considering the stock bolts had some sealant.

Follow the directions and ta da!

Now repeat.

Rest is pretty straight forward. Glad my neighbor came home when he did, he helped me get the thing up on top.

Then snugged everything down. Hopefully I wont get leaks when it rains. I will check tomorrow as it is in desperate need of a wash.

I will get better pictures tomorrow.
