Milage per tank of gas, v8 runner

I have owned two vehicles that needed 93, one of them was a turbo charged motor and the other was an LS2. I understand that some motors require it, the 4.7 is not one of them.

But I'll never convince anybody here they are throwing money down the drain putting 93 in their 4.7, if you can afford it than whatever more power to you. It isn't hurting anything.

And how have you proven that it doesn't need 93 Octane? We've had to advise customers per TAS to use Premium to mitigate pinging caused under heavy load/hard acceleration in 1GR-FEs.

It's such a silly thing to quibble about, we're not talking about gobs of power here, we're talking about the vehicle simply performing better than it does on regular octane fuel because the ECM is programmed to work with that fuel.

It is silly. I'm new here and not set out to make enemies. So let me digress and apologize.

My previous comment was an attempt to end the argument without admitting either party was right, but I can now see how my comment was condescending and I'm sorry.

You're absolutely correct that it says that in the owners manual, I switched to premium one time to see how it affected my gas mileage and there was no real difference. I'll keep using 87, you keep using 93, everybody will get along anyway.

Stock/ averaging 320 miles per tank at about 17 combined, drive highways speeds mostly at 75 mph. Anyone know if that E88 at sheetz is any good in out trucks?

Not trying to be make enemies, but you are a moron. To get max hp in the v8 or 4.0 v6 premium is required. Someone on another site had their taco dynoed after running regular and then again after running a few tanks of premium (to allow the ecu to fully adjust).

HP on premium was higher. Even the tacoma manual suggests premium if towing for max hp.

While the increased power will yield better mpg, I doubt it will fully offset the difference in cost, especially because premium is generally much more than regular.

For those of you going 330+ on a tank, how many gallons are you putting in on empty?

I have never put in more than 20.5 gallons. Keep in mind that gas is used like a coolant for your fuel pump, and running the tank super low can cause the wp to die prematurely.

No need to call names, this is just the Internet after all. I didn't dyno mine or anything, just ran a couples tanks of 93 over the course of 2 weeks of my normal commute and saw a change of 0.2 mpg for the worse.

I never said it wouldn't cause an increase in power, that's kind of a no brainer. This thread is about gas mileage and my comment was on gas mileage. Increased power does not mean better fuel mileage either, maybe in some cases but fuel mileage has a lot more to do with the rest of the car and not just the motor.

Anyway, I'm done with this topic and I already admitted I was wrong and apologized so I'm not really sure what else you want out of me.

Happy Friday and I hope you have a good day.

Ben, sorry for the name calling, not sure why some folks go there.
Take a page from the Clintons, never apologize and never admit your wrong. :) (that was a joke, i hope it was funny)

We all have our opinions, some based on experience, but still an opinion.

More importantly, I see you had a few of those premium gas sipping queens as well. I was so glad to get rid of that VW... but the experience with that VW made me never buy gas below 93 again.

and yes TGIF!!!

Whats everyone getting mileage wise for a tank of gas in your v8 runner, also total miles for the whole tank(close estimate works) State if your lifted or stock or what not as well. thanks

Truck is totally stock V8 Limited 4x4, except for some wiring mods for constant 12V power, a brake controller, a hardwired charging cradle, and custom interior bulbs. Otherwise totally the same as off the assembly line.

14-15 is about on the mark most of the time. If I try (as in try to be a smoother driver, less hard on the gas), I can easily get 17-19. In ideal conditions, I've hit 21-23.

Towing at the maximum tow capacity of the truck, it plummets to about 10.

I get 300-320 per tank, 15 to 15.5 mpg.

I switched to premium when I noticed pinging this past summer. One of these days I'm going to try filling up w/regular and rest the ECM before leaving the gas station to see if the pinging subsides. It didn't ping when I first bought it in May, I think I noticed it a couple of months later.

What exactly did you feel or hear?

I heard the classic pinging sound under moderate to heavy acceleration consistently for a couple of weeks straight before making the change. It stopped but returned and was more pronounced after switching back to regular for a couple of tanks.

milage

Im going to change the transfer case fluid and rear end fluids when i do the oil change. Maybe use royal purple? As well will check my brakes, hope there ok if not 5th gen brakes it is.

Ahhhh, my math is off. If my tach says I did 385 miles but I am running 265/70-17 and stock is 265/65-17. How do I calculate for the actual mileage?

diameter is off by 3.4%

Revs per mile are off 7.5ish %
