Milkshake victim - labor quote to replace tranny?

Pretty straightforward issue here - 1999 Highlander, suffered the infamous strawberry milkshake last fall at 144k miles. OEM radiator failed, fluids mixed, etc.

Replaced radiator, had tranny powerflushed, etc...lasted 9k miles until last night.

Symptoms:

- 1st gear, the truck barely moves regardless of how much you floor it...until you get out of first, then it's fine.
- Right as I'm going to park, A/T Oil Temp light comes on. Damnit...first time it's ever come on.

So now the truck's parked, and I'm having it towed to my house until I can find a shop to handle the replacement. Not going with a rebuild, as I'm not confident that they will get all of the coolant traces out of the gearset, etc.

I've found a couple used trannies locally (DC), but now my issue is getting the work done. Any local T4R guys want to take on the job, or recommend me a shop to work with in the DMV area?

Also, if I go with a shop how many HOURS of labor should I be paying for a tranny swap and fluid fill? Driveshaft, T-case, and all that will stay as-is.

Glad I have my Supra around to daily drive for now.

For labor time and such, along with cost, I would imagine it would be arbitrary for each shop.

If you plan on keeping the 4runner for some time, you may want to ask them about replacing the main seal at the same time.

I like the Supra. That is a nice car.

i know how it goes, i picking my runner up tomorrow after a full rebuild on the tranny, cost me $1,650, hope your fix goes smooth and can get a fair price on the fix

I just replaced a trans in a 2000 t4r,v-6, 4x4, last month. If I remember right, I was paid 7-8 hours labor. Not that difficult of a job.

Great, that helps me budget for parts and labor then! Found a good deal on a used transmission off a 1999 4WD so I'll plan on buying it this week. Looking for shops to install it in the DC or Silver Spring area.

How much extra would it be to replace the rear main seal with the transmission pulled?
