Millerad's Build Thread - "GiGi"

Do it!

Are you going to start a build thread for your wife's T4R or put both of them in here or not start one if you don't do much to hers?

I've looked over some of the write-ups for it. I am going to look this evening and see what our gear ratios are and if I'm pre-wired for the e-locker like some are. Its not one of my priorities, but who knows, I may get a spark up my a** one day and do it.

Don't plan on making a build thread for hers, as I don't plan on doing much to it. It's run great for 280k, so I don't really want to mess with that and jinx it! She's getting tint on the front windows and maybe taking off the running boards. I drove it a bit yesterday, and it drives great. Smoother than mine, and better MPGs. I'll try and get some more pics this evening if the rain holds out.

Do it!!!! You saw how mine worked so well and I'm sure I'll test it out more this weekend.
I'm down to help you too.

When putting your roof rack back on your 4runner did you use any silicone or something like for the screws in the roof?

Yes I used regular ole clear silicone. I dropped a glob down in the holes so it would rise up as I tightened the screws down. It's been through a lot of rain and no leaks so far.

If hers is a non limited trim then the gears should be the same, all limiteds got 4.30's. 4.10 locking axles are pretty darn rare so I'd go for it. I've got a nifty diagram for wiring in the elocker into a non locker truck. Pretty straight forward honestly.

You can check the axle code on the doorjam sticker, it will be like GKAGKP or something like that. I'll post the reference chart when I get home

Hers is a Limited. I'm not sure what either of us have as far as gearing. When she gets home ill check them out.

That's unfortunate. SR5's got 4.10's and limiteds got 4.30's. You could still swap but you'd probably want to do the front diff too...and that's like a 30 minute continuous wrestling match to get out or back in. If you ever did want to swap both I'd be more than happy to lend a hand

Got my sliders mounted today. Met up with a member from Indiana TTORA, who graciously offered his welder and help. They went on relatively easy. Positioned and marked, then welded the legs. Finally mounted them to the frame. Going to paint them tomorrow.

I plan on painting them Rustoleum Hammered...that way if they need touched up it'll be nice and easy.

Enjoyed the write up, keep up the good work!

FYI only for reference: You are correct, but the SR5 Sport/Highlander pack had a package available that included a 4.30. So I guess it is the only exception to the rule. Second post on my build thread was how it was listed as being included on my monroney.

Painted the sliders today. Gave them a good wipe down with brake cleaner. Taped everything up, primed, then painted. I think they turned out pretty good. Should be durable, but if I need to touch up I can just give them a quick spray. I want to add some grip tape to the top for more traction.

Putting newspaper up to keep everything clean.

All painted...I also painted the space under my front flare, where the running board pieces were.

Shot of how far they stick out...not too far, and still make a good step.

Also added an "Oh Sh*t" handle above the door on the driver side...still wondering why that had the threaded holes for one, but didn't install one.

Had a new muffler installed today. The stock one finally gave out...had a few good sized holes along the seams on both sides. Not too bad though, got 177K out of it. Went with an 18" Magnaflow. Figured a 14" would be too loud, and 24" not loud enough. The guy installing also welded my cat in, the clamps had slipped and there was a leak there.

Got some new wheels and tires this week. 16" Level 8 Strike 6 and 33" Falken Rocky Mountains. So far I like them...pretty quiet, good in rain, and not too shabby looking.

Also have some sliders on the way. Picked them up from Champ1415. Pics to come when they are installed.

Good looking rig. Love white 4Rs. New wheels look clean, too.

Curious how the 285s would have worked with your original TRD/906 lift... Thoughts?

Thanks for the compliments.

As for the tires, I think they would have been too big for that lift. I'm sure I could have made them fit, by banging away and cutting up some trim, but I didn't want to do that. The 265s fit just fine with that lift, never had to make any adjustments.

I think between the higher lift and the backspacing (4.5") of the new wheels, it gives me plenty of room. The only time I've rubbed anywhere is on the bottom of the front valance, and only when backing out of a steep driveway at full lock.

Haven't had a chance to go off-road with this setup yet, but will soon. I'll see what adjustments, if any, need to be made then.
