Can I mix Toyota Red with Zerex Asian? My radiator just cracked and the Toyota red coolant is pretty new so I don't want to do a full flush after I replace it.

Well the point is I don't have any coolant on hand and the Zerex is easier to get, but you gave me an idea - save the old coolant and add distilled water.

Do yourself a huge favor and use only Toyota coolant. If you have a mix of aftermarket stuff in there now, flush the heck out of it and replace with the factory stuff.

I think as long as what you're adding is designed for all aluminum components, you'll be fine. If you buy into the 'can only use toyo brand' then flush/swap it later. I can't stand the price, here in Austin its $35/gallon.
I participate on some Polaris blogs, same idea there, "you gotta use Polaris motor oil or else the world will end!" Right. :banana:

I'd say you are probably ok. The Zerex Asian is an almost perfect clone of Toyota Pink. It is a different anti-corrosion tech than the Toyota Red, but Toyota issued a TSB saying it is all right to mix the two, top one up with the other, etc. So if mixing Pink and Red is ok, mixing Zerex Asian and Toyota Red is ok. In any case, you will not have any of the sludging issues you will have with some of the ugly mixes, like old-style green and Toyota Red. Freeze and boil protection will be unaffected.You will not be adding any antagonistic additives, like silicates, that will destroy the anti-corrosion tech.
So the worst that could happen is some marginal reduction in the life of the anti-corrosion protection. (Some of the gurus on BITOG dispute the wisdom of the mix, despite the TSB.) To be super safe, run it closer to 30k and I'm sure you're fine.

"A new pink colored LLC is being phased into production for all 2002 Japan Built
Toyota models. The color change does not affect the maintenance procedures or
intervals established for the red coolant. The new pink coolant is 100% compatible
with the current red coolant and red coolant can be used to replace, top off, or mix in
with the pink coolant with no adverse effects.
�� 2002 model year Japan Built vehicles including 4Runner, Camry, Celica, Corolla,

Thanks everyone for chiming in. I figure that if I'm careful and save the majority of the coolant from the old radiator, I'll only need to top off a bit and so probably just use distilled water. If I lose too much and need to add significantly more, Durk and papoopski has me pretty conviced that Asian Zerex is OK to mix.

I am looking to do a radiator drain and fill. I currently have the toyota pink coolant but want to use zerex asian to fill what i drain. Is this mixing ok? I am not flushing the entire system, just want to refresh the coolant. Zerex asian seems like a compatible fluid. I have seen a lot of posts about people using zerex asian but few if any of people who have mixed the two... Has anyone mixed these two coolants?

My gripe with the Zerex stuff is I've only found it premixed. At 16/gallon, you might as well just pay 35 for the Toyota Red concentrate.

For some people like myself its more about the availability , I run Zerex because its available from 3 auto parts stores a stones throw away. The nearest Yota dealer is about 45 min.
