Moab Area Trip

Planning a trip beginning of June for about a week in Moab.

So far my list of trails I want to do includes:
Moab Rim (wondering how much trouble I’ll have coming off z-turn and devil’s crack)
Golden Spike
Fins & Things
Top of the World
Hell’s Revenge

Trails I am considering adding to this:
Chicken Corners
Poison Spider Mesa
Steel Bender
Flat Iron Mesa
*Open to suggestions*

Going to be in Moab for a couple days after the Overland Expo (May 19~21). Not sure if you are interested in joining us then. Either way I can let you know what my experiences have been as a newbie to Moab.

Bummer on my timing. I'll be there 6/9-6/16. Can't wait to hear your impression!
 
Hell's Revenge shouldn't be an issue, spotting is only really needed on the optional obstacles.

If you're going to be there a week, you'll have time to do a lot more trails than your list. If you haven't already, check out traildamage.com for lots of great trail info.

Hope the biting gnats aren't too bad, that is usually about their peak time. If they are, and you're camping, consider finding a spot at higher elevation in the La Sals.

I know I’ll have more time and that is why this list will evolve. Just making sure I’m on the right track or I don’t miss out doing one I really should do. I’m staying in a house in the city of Moab so I hope I’m mostly safe from the gnats. Do you think Moab Rim is alright to take a swing at? Just watched enough YouTubes to wonder if I don’t have enough clearance... lol.
 
I haven't run Moab Rim yet, so I can't say for sure, but traildamage says it is a 6-7, so it should be doable.

I'll probably run into you at some point, I live 90 minutes away and spend a lot of time in the area.
 
Moab Rim is my favorite trail in Moab. I can't even remember how many times I've done it. I haven't done it in my new 4-Runner yet though (always in my FJ to date). I don't use a spotter on it. I've gotten a number of newbies in stock to near stock FJ's up and down it, so if you know the right lines it's not really that bad. I should mention that I've also seen vehicles roll on it, which can be a little nerve racking since on some spots you're very close to the edge of a rather significant cliff. Here are a few pic's from some of my trips:

I should be in Crested Butte by the first of June (I spend summer/fall there) and might could get over to Moab for a couple of days. I'm going to Cruise Moab so I will have already been there this spring. If I did come it would be a last minute decision. There's not much you really need a spotter on if you do Hell's Revenge. The only obstacles you really need to be spotted on are the optional obstacles (Hell's Gate, Escalator, Tip-over Challenge). Of those, Tip-over really doesn't require a spotter if you have much experience at all. Steel Bender and Flat Iron Mesa are reasonably easy runs that are really fun so I'd give some thought to doing one or both of those.

Your rig is good to go on Moab Rim. I ran it in my Tacoma at Cruise Moab 2011. I had a blast!

Golden Spike is an excellent trail to run. You get a taste of Poison Spider and Gold Bar Rim as well. It is a long day though. Golden Crack and Golden Steps are fun obstacles along this trail.

Another great trail is Cliff Hanger:



This obstacle is on the edge of a sheer cliff. Don't look down!

If you have a day to kill when you are not wheeling, you should check out Arches National Park. There are some beautiful sights and plenty of hikes.

Is anybody else attending Cruise Moab 2014 other than [MENTION=102890]Jimmy_D[/MENTION] ? I just registered last night. I will be running Fins & Things on Thursday, Hell's Revenge on Friday, and Cliff Hanger on Saturday.

I'm signed up for Behind The Rocks on Thursday, Moab Rim on Friday and Pritchett Canyon on Saturday. I led one of the Cliff Hanger runs at Cruise Moab year before last. The trail has gotten much tougher over the last 4 or 5 years so I'd be reluctant to recommend it to anyone unless I was confident of their off-roading skills. It is a great trail though.

Very nice. I ran Cliff Hanger in 2010 and I loved it. I am always up for a challenge. Not sure about Pritchett though. Need a front locker before I would tackle that one. Maybe I will see you out there. You going to be running your FJ?

Thanks! That long wheel base makes it look much easier! Lol. Jk. We are definitely doing a day in Arches. The family will be along so I have to break up the relentless trail riding with other adventures too.

That's the plan…..assuming of course that it's finished by then (which I'm assured it will be). One thing I should mention about Moab Rim is that the turnaround is right on the edge of the cliff that looks directly down into town and is a terrific place to stop for lunch.

what can/ should i try.

I'm headed to Moab for spring break in 2 days. I'll be there from 3/23/14 till the 21st, if anyone else will be down there. I'm thinking of doing the same trails but have never wheeled in moab so i'm a bit nervious. So far my hit list is:

Chicken Corners
Fins & Things
Top Of the World
Hells Revenge - Maybe??
Poison Spider Mesa - Maybe??

For the trip i'm running: rear locker, 3" OME lift, 265/76/r16 Goodyear Duratracs (brand new), and Shrock works slidders. Currently no front bumper (didn't get that finished in time, woops:crybaby:)

How do you guys think I would fare? Please ANY suggestions or recomendations would be GREAT!
