I wouldn't think there would be a problem as long as its tight and all; also it probably holds a different amount than the stock replacementI'm curious....how did you determine the M1-209 was compatible with the V-6? It is about the same size as the Toyota D3 filter and looks to be a suitable substitute. However, the parts manuals I've looked at list the M1-102 for the V8 and V6. Is there any downside to using the M1-209 versus the recommended filter that anyone is aware of? If not, I think I'll try one at my next oil change
Here's an update on the M1 209 Filter. I have used them on all three of my 1GFRE V6 engines and had no complaints until this past week. When I did my 5K mile oil change on my 2008 SE, there was NO OIL AT IN THE FILTER. It looked as if it had just came out of the box and had been on the vehicle for 5000 miles.
As fate would have it, I also changed the oil in my daughter's 04 SR5. Plenty of oil in that M1 209 when I changed it.
This was probably the 3rd or 4th M1 209 filter I have used. No problems before. Only thing different with the prveious oil change was that I had run Mobil 1 0W 30 to see how it worked in my 2008. Could using 0W 30 have caused this ? Could it be a defective filter? Or could there be an oil pump problem in the engine?
I used a Toyota D3 filter on this most recent oil change. I plan to unscrew this filter slightly and see if any oil seeps out. If not, I think I may have some big problems.
"Big problems" is unlikely IMHO. If there was a big issue as in no oil flow you'd know itDoes the -209 have front side bypass? If so maybe it was stuck open.
If not that then I suspect you had a defective ADBV on that one filter, a rare but not unheard of occurrence on any filter. Also 0w-30 being a little thinner will slip by the valve easier.PHP:I honestly don't if I have that front side bypass or not...beyond my ability to determine..PHP:The only difference in this oil change was the 0w-30, but I wasn't sure it could be the culprit or not, hence my PM to you since I hold your insights in high regard
Did you start & warm it prior to the change or just go out to where it was parked (for many hours) and change it?If you're hunting for a cheap but very good filter to experiment with get Motorcraft FL400s from Wally World. They filter well and have a first-class anti-drain valve.. I may try that one when I use up my case of 10 Toyota D3's. With 3 1GFRE engines in all my Toyotas, it shouldn't take too longPHP:Car was parked overnight. I have change oils hundreds of times, even when cars have set for days at a time and seen some oil. This filter was "pristine". Not a drop of oil in it.
