"mods" in a can

i decided since i had a few cans of the stuff (plasti dip and VHT) laying around from other projects to black out the 4Runner.


first off was tinting all the tail lights and the red reflectors on the bumper and plasti dipping the emblems

second was plasti dipping the emblems up front and tinting the DRL's

lastly i plasti dipped the SR5 and 4WD emblems on the side and used a tooth pick while it was still wet to leave the edges still shiny (trick i picked up from my days with an Audi since plasti dip is HUGE in the Euro scene)

gonna wash it up real good tomorrow since it looks silly with cleaned sections that were prepared for paint/tape and try and get the glue off the hatch from the dealer stickers.

dropped in some 5000k HID's in the lows as well (yes i know i should have projectors, but i am ok with being that ******* until i source some TL projectors cheap for a retrofit)

note that pic is in 4HI mode (low and high beams)

How bright are the tails at night? You do still want some reflectitivity from behind so you aren'y invisible when you are parked.

i'll get some night shots tonight. my other truck is just as dark and they still light up nice at night.

oddly i dont have any night time shots of it either.

Tail lights look great, how many coats of the VHT did you use?

Two coats and a cost of clear, the tail lights on these trucks are hard to take off, you gotta have itty bitty hands to get the nuts off the back

Wow, only 2 coats? They look darker, but maybe that's cuz the truck is in the shade. Good info, thanks

They aren't near as dark as my Chevrolet, I don't remember how many costs are on it

Or some good odd angle tools, like flexi ratchet wrenches and u joint sockets or extensions :

I've thought about doing mine and even have a can of vht but I've seen some people go too thick and ruin the lights so I've yet to do it.

there are a few imperfections you can see in it at night so i am going to sand them down and recoat them.

This is just me, but I'm not a fan of making things like lights "darker". There's so many a**holes out there who already can't see you and using vht just makes it harder for them to see you. Especially the DRL's up front, you do know those are also turn signals?

I'd be interested in seeing night pictures with and without the vht.

well i can still see my DRL's in the reflections of other vehicles even during the daytime so its no big deal. i will get pics just for you guys tonight.

I don't have pictures of it without tinted DRL'S because that'd be a picture of stock 4Runner with ugly amber DRL'S. This is more than bright enough
