Mods slowing down as I get older

Slow day, thought I would start a thread. As I continue to add some mods/accessories to my 4R I think back to my younger days and the things I used to do to my cars and I wonder what items I have out grown or better yet my priorities have shifted. When I was younger it was lifts, tires, tinting, stereo, visor with lights, etc, etc, etc

BuckyBadger, do you own a gun? If you do, get rid of it. I sense some depression and suicidal tendencies. Man you got to get help... LOL, just kidding. I know what you mean, I love mods that do not scream "Rice". You can still paint calipers or get dual exhaust. Except you want to keep it subtle now, as oppose to painting calipers red you make them metallic-silver or titanium-gold. When you get new exhaust it's usually because stock one is shot and aftermarket is less expansive than OEM.

I surely am not done yet! But times are kinda rough for me right now (financially that is) i had to stop modding the 4runner.. i don't feel like i'm getting boring it's just that there are certain priorities that needs attention in my life at this point in time.. i always remember what my previous boss used to tell me "i don't understand you young ones these days, whatever you see, you buy it"... For me modding never gets old for anybody, it just slows down as you get a little older for whatever reason it maybe.. once a mod freak always a mod freak...

Most of the stuff out there looks bad or serves little purpose for the money. Other than some new tires, it seems like most anything you do to a vehicle makes it look ricey or cheap.

I understand completely at 45 y/o , but did put bigger tires on and wouldn't mind a slight little lift , stereo remains stock with the add'n of XM radio which now I find myself listening to talk radio ....lol.

I would like to do a few other little goodies though , but nothing radical.

you want things as simple as it can be. and imo, that is why modding is becoming less priority.

No more stereo mods for me, the JBL is great for what I want it to do (not go deaf ) I still like to turn up the volume I just don't need to be able to bounce quarters off my roof anymore.

I still like vent visors to aid in the flow of fresh air throughout the car especially when it rains, but before it was also to be able to vent out the smoke too (don't smoke anymore). Also tinting the windows used to be a priority especially since most cars came with clear windows back in the day, now most trucks have enough tint to where I am satisfied with it the way it comes stock.

Tires are still something I like to upgrade.

I did an exhaust in the past and it did not add enough if any HP to put up with the drone.

Modding lights has never been of much interest to me.

Most everything I think about modding now has a practical and useful purpose.

I would like to put a Westin Safari bar on with some light or just the bar maybe .

I would like a little lift , probably a leveling kit for the front , but it would be for looks , yes I would get a little clearance from it , but sometimes I think going through the hassle of installing the kit , having to get an alignment , then possibly having to remove it and get another alignment after I take it off to turn it in off the lease. When in all reality I do quite a bit of off roading on its always taken me easily where I want it to go and places I should not even attempt , plus maybe giving a little more wear to the front end and giving up a little handling , is it really worth what all that would cost me ?????

Its fun to dream about all this stuff and look at other trucks , where mine will go from here as far as mods go .... who knows.

You just dont see modded vehicles like you used to , mainly just bolt ons at best for visual enhancement.

The mods I've done have been minor and cosmetic , see them in my sig.

Putting biggest tires and a good all terrain are always something I do first thing when I get a new truck , that probably won't ever change.

I hear you Falls, love the Sirius radio installed, I have even found myself listening to the Discovery channel on it during long trips to the cabin. The Discovery channel on a Radio!!!

Maybe I should put some 12" subs in and see how the discovery channel thumps....
