Ok so after coating my whole t4r in monstaliner a couple of guys requested I do a write up so here it goes:
Materials I ordered:
- 2 gallons of desert sand monstaliner
- 1 gallon of black monstaliner
- undercoating gun (spray or roll on application)
- 2 quarts of MEK
- Blue painters tape (base board’s version)
- 12x100 ft. clear plastic
- 80 grit sand paper
- Bulldog adhesion promoter (for coating plastics)
- chassis saver (for bare metal primer)
Other Tools needed:
- Power drill
- Compressor (if spraying on)
- Respirator
- A buddy to help
- palm sander
Prep:
- clean the area as best you can
- wipe down area with MEK
- Sand down all the areas you want to coat (careful not to strip to bare metal, just enough to remove clear coat)
- wipe down with MEK 2 times ensuring surface is clean of everything
- Tape all areas you don’t want hit with paint
Application:
I decided to spray it on vs. rolling because of a few reasons, time, I liked the texture better, and I had a compressor so why not?
The paint comes in different containers, the paint, the catalyst and the color (if not doing black)
Here is a video on how to mix the black paint
Mixing Monstaliner (Black) - YouTube
The tin table colored ones is a little different because you must add the color to the paint
- Once mixed I poured the paint into the gun and started spraying working from the top to bottom.
- I sprayed at 65 PSI (recommended 50-80) (they also say to reduce it with 4 oz. of MEK when spraying)
- spraying is extremely easy; you will get a hang of it as soon as you start spraying.
- Once done first coat clean gun and wait around 1 hour between starting again (paint should be dry to touch also clean the gun by spraying MEK through it)
- If working from the same gallon mix for 1 min. before starting second coat
- apply second coat making sure you hit all the areas you want (you should see texture now)
Here are videos I watched on how to coat by spraying

MONSTALINER? Spray Application - YouTube
Clean Up:
-once done final coat they suggest to remove all tape right after (I waited about 10 min)
Clean spray gun with MEK
- If you get paint on un wanted area, use MEK and a rag and wipe off ASAP!
What I Used:
I used about 1.5 gallons of the desert sand and about 3/4 gallon of the black. with the desert sand I applied 2 heavy coats to entire body - all the parts I took off to paint black. for black I did 2 coats on most but 3 heavy coats on the bumpers.
Dry time:
- they say you can use it as little as 24 hours for light use but I waited 5 days before I started reassembling. also between coats the dry time is different between rolling and spraying
Any questions you can ask me or visit their site Monstaliner do-it-yourself roll-on truck bed liner outperforms Herculiner Bed Liner, Duplicolor and Rustoleum Road Warrior
or check out their Facebook page to see a bunch of pictures.
Also if you are coating plastic or bare metal there are a few different steps to do to make sure you get proper adhesion
