so im about fed up with my runner not starting. im starting to think about a small block conversion. i wanna be different and go with a 318 or 360 chrysler. i know the thing to do is a 350 but i like mopar products. PAw used to make a kit for it and i once seen an 87 with a 440. now PAW dosent seem to be doing much of anything. does anyone know if a kit for this is still made or would i be doing a total custom conversion?

Nope the kits are no longer sold.
if your dead seat on mopar you will have to use the entire driveline engine tranny transfer-case and have custom shafts made and a custom cross-member made and custom engine-mounts. all in all not a hard thing to do if you have a welder.
but remember if you plan on wheeling your going to want fuel injection as carburetors don't work on inclines and tips.
im sure you can find a TBI 318 pretty cheap with auto tranny and t case. and most v8 guys swap out the 22re radiator for just a V6.

I recommend not doing the mopar and just stick with ford or chevy but if your dead set on it then youll have a lot of money into fabrication just to make it work. not to mention you will almost certainly have to have a automatic transmission because the dodge trannys are crazy LONG.

Thats what i figured. Always wanted to do a mopar swap but it will wait till i find a runner for a project. I got talked into putting toyota carburated intake on if I cant cant get mine to run soon. not a good idea but i gotta do something

its been done but keep in mind the 20r intake is not a direct fit to the 22re there are modification that have to be done. i looked into this myself when i had a no start issue ended up i needed all new sensors the computer fried and took EVERY sensor with it.

BV...couldn't agree more. While different is sometimes cool...cool costs. I do a variety of engine / trans swaps and installs in my shop, and I can tell you that unless you have lots of time, solid fabrication skills, and access to odd parts (well stocked Mopar junkyard), you're asking for many sleepless nights or at a least, the desire to be frusterated. My advise would be as BV says...stick with the mainstream, do a Ford or Chevy. Buy a totalled four wheel drive pickup and youll have all the parts in one place...brackets, cooling, running gear, etc., and save the headaches. A lot of times there are reasons why some conversions aren't done...don't be the one to find out what they are half way through.

I was gonna do the Chrysler swap because it is different and I have a 76 power wagon with a built 360 and blown 727 torqueflight tranny. Since I cant get a swap kit I will find and old 4 speed manual to use. I can get 3 NP205 t-cases. I dont have anything against chevys but I wont touch a ford product. I can fabricate a bit and what I cant I know people that can. But for now it will wait.

A 22r intake will fit some 22re heads. My spare head came off a 22re that had been swaped to carboration. Its not hard to do and for me it would be temporary

Nope!
A Mopar into a Toyota CAN NOT BE DONE! Or at least, it shouldn't be done.

If you do, I want to see it.
True, Chevy 350s seem to be the usual.

its not that it cant be done anything is possible with enough money.
but if he was to do a complete drive train swap it would be fairly cheap just some homemade motor mounts and a homemade cross member some custom drive shafts and hes all set with a auto tranny.
i had some custom shafts made locally and it was only like $120 to go from a mazda to a chevy. but like CSROBB said its all a headache and money game.

Mopar blocks are very wide, i almost guarantee the truck has to be built around the drivetrain. There are reasons why they arent a popular swap motor. If you are hell bent on doing it, then I say God Speed to you. I met this guy in Oregon through a friend in Oregon runs a 440(if i recall) in his '88 pickup. It is completely custom and strickly made for mud drags. Might want to see if you can get in touch with him and ask some questions.

I dont remember his name and im not sure if JASE4X4 is him or not but its the only one i've ever seen. Its the black truck (obviously) and there are a few more videos of it on his page.

If I do it, it will wait till I get the one I got now going and then find me another 1st gen to play with so I can take my time with it. I know it will be a lot of work but I think the end result could very well be worth it.
