more power is needed!!!

What kind of fab skills do you have? If you can weld I vote turbocharger, I have less than $700 in the whole setup and more than enough power.
 
It's been mentioned a couple times. FWIW, an IPT valve body upgrade won't do much for his 5-Speed manual trans.

Well yea ya could.. for a price, youd have to replace everything though. I'm biased though, my DD is actually FAST, going from that to a 4runner is flat out depressing. I'm actually surprised no one on here has actually tried to see just how much you could get out of the 5vz.

i would like a super but i havnt really heard of anyone turboing a 5vz, i cant weld too much because i havent done much, but i have a guy that helps me with all that stuff

and good to know on the IPT valve body, didnt know it didnt work on a 5 spd

and that super kit from Dallas is less than here. but i dont know what all needs to be replaced and such and what comes with them and what all i need when i do, therefor i dont know what all i need to be keeping my eye out for.

like i have put a little over 3 grand in the truck since i got it, not including the clutch and gears, and this super will double what i put in it so far, but should be worth it.
 
Man, if you're wanting something fast or big on power, you should consider something else. The 4R just kinda lumbers down the road.

He says he has a Corvette, that should be plenty fast. I don't think it works though... maybe he should be fixing that instead?
 
Brand new S/C kits from the dealer should run you between $2700 and $3000. They will come with everything you need. The kit was designed to run on a factory un modified engine so it will do no harm. If you decide to modify it further, that's when you need to look into other upgrades (cooler spark plugs, 7th injector etc.)
And to whoever is saying that forced induction does not do much to these engines...I'm not sure where you're getting that. My factory runner did 0-60 in a weekend. After the fact: a few weeks ago I was out at MIR with a few friends running there mustangs and they convinced me to run the 4r. I beat 2 swapped civic hatchbacks, a gti vr6 and a hemi ram 1500. Oh yes, the supercharger makes a difference.

Its also surprisingly easy to install. Once I laid out the parts and made sense of the directions, it took me just shy of 4 hours to install (including beer breaks)

pretty sure you cant get the sc kit from the dealer any more, but i could be wrong.

but trd in now way designed this to 'do no harm'. mine was installed by the dealership on a completely stock engine and pinged like hell until i put larger injectors in. i have heard stories from members here of people actually pinging their engine to death due to the haphazerd design of this unit. this was pretty much the first aftermarket blower kit trd ever sold (afaik), and it shows. look at the new tundra kit for example, it comes with cooled plugs, extra injectors, and many other parts that this one didnt. granted your location makes a difference, but everyone in cali thats sc that ive talked to has had pinging on some level with this kit. i guess it works ok at higher altitudes, maybe the trd research facility is in the mountains i guess......:hatsoff:

They don't produce them anymore but they have back stock available through the dealership (at least as of early this year when I was looking). As for the pinging, I guess that could be a case by case thing. My truck spends most of its life at approximately 300-400 ft above sea level with the occasional cross country trip to the 9-10k feet of Eagle County CO. I have never experienced a ping, unless it's a quiet noise that I just don't recognize. I agree that the kit is no where near as "complete" as it could have, or should have been, but I have had zero issues with my setup (granted I installed the cooler plugs at the same time as the blower). I have spoke numerous times with URD and they agree that I do not NEED to upgrade the fuel system until I decide to run more boost. The factory fuel pump is perfectly capable of supporting the low boost. However, if I could afford the 7th injector kit now, I would pick it up. Better to run rich than lean!
 
they are on the 4th gen s/c at my dealer, i dont know what gen those are. but i guess i wouldnt be super opposed to a turbo. sounds like its a good way to go, my low end is good its just the higher that needs help. wonder if anyone has compound charged one :wow: im going to look into this turbo stuff, so to those who have it any help would be great.
