More Subs on the Way

Well about 2 years ago I installed a fully custom audio system, and, knowing me purchased a sub amp with additional headroom - an Audioque AQ2200D.

Im getting 2 more 12" Type R's for a total of 4 this week. Im going to be building, most likely, a 8 cube ported box with exterior dimensions of about 41x22x22

Its going to have a total of 2200 watts doubling what it is now. Yup, you right, its completely overkill.

MDF, double thick baffle.

I hope stock batt/alt hold up - I dont thump 24/7 though.

No, to be honest Im double thinking this decision. Its overkill, and I have no desire to replace a blown alternator or, to be honest, make a huge box out of impossible to cut MDF........****

OK just emailed the eBay store, they let me change my order once already, hopefully they'll let me do it again.

Im getting a 12" Type S thin design 4ohm sub and building a small box so I can have a trunk again......this was my original plan LOL.

****, your not making my choice any easier, the eBay note is done.

Perhaps a redesigned box for the 2 type r's will improve their sound/make it louder. Its 4.5 cubes before displacement and I understand they like it big.

How many Type R's do you need before you realize you need two 15" MTs? HMMMM?

How are you gonna run 2200 off your stock alt and batt? I dunno how well that would work....

Downgrading is unacceptable! I'm with Clemson, get a BTL or two.

FWIW, MDF is not hard to cut it just chips easily, the dust is carcinogenic tho...

I'm running my 15" BTL with a Crunch GP3000D and the stock electricals do not hold up at all. I think I only have the gain set at 1/2 with the bass on the HU all the way down. If I turn the volume up to 20 on my Alpine HU, and a hard bass note hits, the HU shuts off along with the amp.

I've got a Stinger volt meter at the amp, and it drops to the 9v range. I do have a HO alternator waiting to be installed, but it's too damn cold to get into the engine bay right now......

Masking tape will stop mdf from chipping....Mask both sides of where your making the cut and it won't chip
