More TomTom Issues...

I am just fed up with the fact the not even Toyota corporate knows what is going on. Not to mention that I really don't want to go out and buy a seperate hands-free set just because the one built in to the vehicle does not work.

Toyota should have really done more research before integrating something into the vehicle that has obvious problems. I would expect more from a big name in auto manufarturing.

I have 300 miles on the 4nr, 1/2 of which was to go back and forth to the dealer for this issue.

I would be more that happy for Toyota to put me in a rental car while they take my car to Torrance and tear it apart to figure out what the problem is. But that, as the dealer put it, "is just not an option."

tell them to rip out the unit and put a new one in. problem solved.

i havent had nearly the issues (knock on wood) sounds like some other people are having. i got my blackberry hooked up to it, iPod and everything works fine. it wouldnt read an mp3 disc but i could care less now that have ipod hooked up. it crashed once i reset it and good to go now. i looove it im happy overall and the sales guy i went to was honest from start he had no idea how to use it..but he was way cool about it and didnt BS me so i knew i was on my own after i left. having a background in computers and car audio plus being a gadget geek helps thats for sure.

Want to take a trip to sunny SoCal to help me out with this issue? :D

ok, so I got the new TomTom from the dealer today, minus the memory card (which I think is the problem) and it still doesn't work... Anyone have a fix for this issue? I have other SD cards that are high quality, but have no way to get the original "software" that is supposed to be on it to load onto it.... Apparently the cards from tomtom/toyota are on a HUGE backorder because this is a common issue... Any help would be appreciated.

from what i've read, you dont need to get a specific SD card from TomTom. Just pop in a regular SD card and you will be on your way. THere is a 'hard disk' imbedded in the TT that holds most of what you need. If you downloaded things you will lose them.

well i think i spoke to soon about not having issues. it reset a few times over the weekend lost my POI's and crashed once. it always came back on but still an annoyance.

you should look into changing the SD card ASAP..

as an update, I was able to finally get a TomTom rep on the phone who would take responsibility, instead of pawning me off on toyota or Fujitsu(apparently they make the hardware) and got the issue fixed. I took a new 4GB SD card that I had, and the rep gave me a one time link to an FTP that downloaded the 900+mB of info to dump on the card. They also have to give me a new product code for the new map so I could activate the unit. So far, knock on wood, its working fine! So, my advice, it is NOT the unit itself, but rather the SD cards. I think they are crappy/too small cards. As soon as anyone buys the UR, take the SD card out of the tomtom and copy all the contents directly onto a new 2+gB card and you should be FINE!

Ok. This is a shot on the dark...but here it goes.

The file that seems be messing everything up is the cname.dat file. It seems as though this file becomes currupted when updated via Tomtom Home. Evedently, our units are not compatible with the latest version of the Tomtom application software.

If there is anyone out there that has not updated their software, would you be able to copy and share your cname.dat file? Once this file is restored the Tomtom "should" work correctly.

Thx!

so you are saying that once you run it through the update software or back it up that is whats causing the issue? i have not backed mine up yet or even loaded that software on my computer. i dont have that many issues so you may be on to something?

I will take a look to see if I have the file, as I have not updated TomTom home (says on the old version that the eclipse/Toyota units are NOT compatible with 2.2 yet). I am not sure if this is the problem however, both of my units/cards that failed had not been hooked up to TomTom home, ever.

Just my $.02

Per my conversation with Tomtom tech support yesterday, it seems that Fujitsu and Tomtom have not worked out the kinks between the two OS. As such, the updated software on one side is confilcting with the software on the other side.

What it means???...I don't really know. I am an accountant after all. What I do know is that my Tomtom stopped working shortly after the software update.

I'm sure there are a multitude of problems with the unit that have not come to light just yet.

So, can you just put in a new 2G card and let it go, becuase that did not work for me. Do you have to unload one card on to your cpu and then empty those on to the new 2G? I am getting the Red X now for about a week.

The application software is on the Tomtom SD card. As such, you can not just simply put a new "blank" SD card in the unit. Toyota, having being inundated with user complaints, just yesterday announced that they will be sending out a new version of the application on upgraded SD cards.

My advise at this point would be to go to your local dealer and request the update. Be advised that the projected wait for new cards is 4-6 weeks.

Exactly....

what if all the files won't transfer? It says some are corrupted...I just need the American maps and vital files til the dealer can fix this. Thanks alot for your help.

In that case, you may be out of luck... Are you trying to copy with the SD in the tomtom (using it as a drive), or did you put the sd into a card reader? the card reader is the better of the two.

What I meant by exactly is that you should copy the files from the sd card in the tomtom onto a NEW 2gb sd card, and this will fix the problems everyone has been having.
