Mountain Bike Mount

I thought the fellow mountain bikers on the forum would appreciate this modification. I have always carried my bike on a hitch mounted carrier. I hate running errands and having to go in places and leave the bike in the parking lot. I'm always afraid someone is going to steal it or something off of it. I also like to hit the trail on the way home from work sometimes and don't like having my bike sitting in the sun or rain all day at work. So here's my solution, a $17 delta mount and two 1/4" bolts.

Looks good, I mounted my Kona in the bed of my Silverado the same way. My car and 4runner I usually just take off the wheels and toss it in the trunk/cargo area

They are actually IRD Fire XC Pros. But from what I understand it is the same tread pattern and the companies are related somehow? They are awesome tires and completely bullet proof. Great traction. Highly recommend. :thumb3:

You know it! How tall are you? I wouldn't think I would be much taller and my 4R is waaayyyy taller! ha ha.

On my new bike (not in the pic) i'm running the Panaracer XC's and love them.

I wish I could still use my cargo mount like this but with an infant seat in the back I basically wouldn't have any space at all back there.

Here is the new bike mounted up top after a ride saturday.

I agree, great tires. I have them on both of my bikes. And yeah I just looked it up, they're still made by pana but marketed and sold here as IRDs.

I have the two tier cargo shelf in the rear so I drilled the holes in that. I mounted the latch to the bike and positioned it in the best spot to get the bike in and out. If you were to mount it to the actual sheet metal in the floor, be sure to check underneath so you don't drill a hole in something important.
 
I like MTB bikes outside...after a ride i dont like the mud, dirt and poison oak on the wheels getting on myself or in my vehicle..I like your mount for my road bike though!

gorgeous 29er norcal!

i have that identical delta mount on my crossbar on the roof. drilled 2 holes and done, as i too like my bikes outside. it was a little scary at first but i ran a tie down through the rear tire on my 9er and attached my spare cable lock to the crossbar. it never budged on my 500+ mile trip home from school.
 
Can you open your hatch with the Sherpa mount norcal? I only ask because I had to use an added length hitch adapter to get mine to work.

edit- whoops just realized you have the NV (right?); I read that it works right because the hitch is slightly longer
 
Thats an awesome Idea! I'm needing a hitch mount for my bikes now.. I have a yakima bike rack when it was mounted on my car but it wont fit factory bars sadly.

NV clears fine with two bikes i dont use the hitch pin the NV has the xpandable locking mechanism and i install as close to the spare as i can, it works great the best rack i have had so far!
