Mounting a garmin - something I found

OK...so I still have not pulled the trigger on an aftermarket HU with nav yet. So, I rely heavily on the Garmin since I travel A LOT. I dont like mounting it on the windshield or dash, so I found this nice little guy on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/IG-PSTARA-i-T...64/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1326204116&sr=8-10

Put it on the little cover as you can see, and it still can flip up if you are NOT using the gamrin...you just pop the little ball thingy out and you can then access the AUX outlet or whatever. It is solid and does not stick out nearly as far as the garmin mount with suction disk - you can also still use the cup holder for shorter drinks or your phone. Anyway, just wanted to share...I will eventually run the power through the back of that compartment into the glove box - I like clean...wires bad! I might even try to modify this little piece so it sits even CLOSER to the plastic it is mounted on...almost looks stock.

So there...$8 aint bad. Plus, you might find somewhere BETTER to mount this little guy.

The ONLY issue I'd personally have is that it's kinda low. I prefer something a little higher up in my line of sight. I don't have a use for this (as I have NAV) but I definitely think it's a cool find. Thanks for posting!

I've never seen someone mount it in the sun visor. I'd be curious how much view that blocks.

I don't like having to look down to read the GPS while driving. I've found that the friction bean bag mounts work great. You can find them cheaper at Best Buy etc.

HA - the visor...nice! And yes, it is low...but I like that because it keeps glare to a minimum and I really like it being out of the way. to his own, though...right?!

IMHO still the best mount is a vent one - I used it on different vehicles for the past 3 years. It's can be adjusted, doesn't restrict access to CD or controls, doesn't cover any displays, not going to fall down and can be moved between vehicles. GPS mounted there is easy to view and operate and it out of the way.

Not to much actually. If you have it tiled all the way forward it works well. Plus with audible directions I can just listen to it

I like the OP's placement because I really don't use GPS for turn by turn nav but for other features. The flashing "turn now" arrows are distracting to me. I also turn the sound off on mine. The only issue I have when mounting down low is it takes a little time to lock onto a signal...even with the sunroof open

I'm in the same camp as some of the others on here though, I don't like it mounted that low and I really don't like listening to the voice commands because (like most women) she talks too much. That's totally a joke, but she really does talk too much.
I'm still trying to decide if I want to invest in an in-dash unit or find another creative place, like the visor to mount the unit...
