Mounting tools to factory roof rack

Ok, I tried searching and all I came up with was a post after post about replacement racks or people complaining how the factory rack isn't strong enough. Last time I said I tried searching somebody immediately posted a link to the forum about the topic I was asking about... but if that happens again... i'm sorry... ok... LMAO...

I know i've seen a post or a thread where someone was mounting tools to the factory rack. I can't find it, And I think he used U-bolts or something. l

I'm probably going to have a High Lift jack in my future, possibly some other gear that can be stowed on the roof. Has anyone developed a secure way to mount a few items up top?

I like the look of the aftermarket roof racks, but the benefits don't outweigh the costs and noise at this time.

The few I've seen were either folks drilling holes through the stock crossbars, u bolts (as you said), or you can get the yakima crossbar mounts and just fab a steel bracket to mount onto those. Imo the yakima brackets are probably the best way to go.

Google 'yakima mighty mount' and you'll see what I mean. They would provide a very solid base for whatever you needed to bolt on.

I found these, kinda cool. They don't offer a lock and i'm a little concerned about how well they would hold up/ hold on during an impact.

Not very many options for the stock rack rails, but if you add a roof rack basket i.e. Yakima Loadwarrior/Megawarrior or Rola rack, then you can just buy tube dia. clamps for your tools.
