Move the DAC button

Got a question for all you electronics gurus. I've got an 04 Sport, with the DAC button down below the shifter. I'd really rather have it up by the Lock Differential button below the dash.

I took the main center panel apart, and noticed that the button looks pretty simple to actually move, except that the wire run for the connector is pretty hairy.

Is is possible to cut the wires and splice in the connector somewhere closer to the dash? Or should I un-tape all of the wires for that wire run back towards the dash?

Do I even make sense?

Thanks in advance.

you make perfect sense to me......i hate that they put that button there.....my PASSENGERS HAVE A TENDENCY TO ACCIDENTALLY PUSH IT!!! i think that moving it to the empty space by the center lock would be difficult, but possible. hope someone can give some insight!

Couldn't you just clip and extend all of the wires, using the same connector @ the new button site?

Sure, that could be done pretty easily. Personally, I would make sure to use the same gauge wire....

Does anyone have any idea what gauge wire that would be?

those lines should be 16 ga. If not 14. I know it's not 12 from the last time i was fartin around on the center console.

btw, for any of owners having some concern about accidentally pressing the button: it won't work unless you're in 4lo and 1st gear. :)
