I had this same thing happen to my '06 V6 Limited this summer and I still have no idea what caused it. What I did was disconnect the battery for about 10 minutes and when I reconnected it the lights were off and (knock on wood) they've stayed off since then.

When the car starts up, it begins a diagnostic check that starts with the evap. system, then proceeds to other vehicle systems including emissions, vsc, trac, engine, etc. For the evap. system, the diagnostic check attempts to create a vacuum to ensure there are no leaks. When it detects that no vacuum is forming (due to the gas cap), it ceases the diagnostics check altogether (does not perform diagnostics for vsc, trac, etc.) and throws all of the warning lights.
Kind of silly that it ceases the diagnostic check after failing the initial evap. system test, I know, but that's how it is. You could confirm by going to AutoZone and having them pull the codes for you. My guess is that codes will show a small evap. system leak (gas cap).
It is perfectly safe to drive the car, but you will have no vsc, trac, etc.
Edit: OK, so after reading a little, it could be anything from gas cap to cat failure to contaminated charcoal canister to stuck evap. system solenoids, etc. You should probably get the codes pulled, but its easy enough to tighten your gas cap and disconnect the battery, see if that fixes it.

hey , i wasnt trying to be a wise guy, just saying there's a few reasons why the lights come & different ways to solve the issue. i should think someone would be interested in finding out about them all. personally, id read everything i could about a problem to find a way to solve it , too bad you dont. hopefully it will turn out to be something as simple as the gas cap, then maybe you can be the jackass.
Read your owners manual. It states that for certain errors (like CEL)...the traction control will be disabled (thus the warning light).
Mine too was a gas-cap. I replaced the cap with one from a local auto parts store...Light didn't go away...bought one from dealer...no more error.
Its cool. I thought it was funny.

Mine too was the gas cap. And, if it is, get it from the Dealer, it's only about $20... I had to replace the gas cap in both my 3rd and 4th gen in the last two months, and the oem dealer gas cap resolved the issue.

I have a 06 v8 w/ 105k miles and I have that same problem. I carried it to a Toyota mechanic and had the codes read. He told me that there were two sensors that were giving the codes and both were on the cat system.
Driver side one before the cat and the one after.
It was going to cost around 700 to get those replaced.

I think I would try the $20 gas cap first..you never know..

If it was the gas cap, the code would have been for an evap system leak. Codes are P0442, P0455, P0456. They are in order; Small leak, Large leak, Very small leak.

yeah read the codes first...........or if you dont have a code reader...try disconnecting the battery for 10 mins...retighten the gas cap.........if the lights still come on after this...then it means the problem is more serious.t wasnt the gas cap causing the error

This happened to me last night. Pressed every button to deal with traction that I could think of including engaging 4X4 only to make matters worse as then it would not dis engage. After not sleeping very well I turned to this forum for help. Found this thread and then immediately went to check my gas cap. It was tight so I then proceeded to disconnect the battery for 10 minutes to reset the ecu. After waiting, reconnected the battery and started up. Lights went out 4X4 disengaged and everything seemed normal again. Went for about a twenty mile drive. Probably not long enough, but so far lights are still off. Test drive revealed a slight hesitation at times like a misfire or not running on all cylinders. This is a 05 V6 4.0 70,000 miles.
Tomorrow I will go and buy a new gas cap, plugs and timing belt as a precaution.

I don't understand why people are so adamant on avoiding reading the DTCs... It literally is the easiest thing you can do to figure out what is wrong with the vehicle. Yet everyone insists on throwing money on gas caps and other crap and prolonging the inevitable by disconnecting the battery...
