Colbert's a hack. Funny, but a hack.

Profiting of your sons death is sickening at best. Shows her true colors. Clearly she is morning correctly. :banghead: "My son is dead...how can I make money off this?" What a b!tch.

Hell no, George zimmerman shall be a free man. I don't care what presidents son he might look like, self defense is a son of a *****! Anyone betting on this? I'll bet $50 g.z. goes free.....(on paypal)

I find this thread to be very interesting. I find it rather strange the national media did not decide to cover this story until about 3 weeks after the incident. Remember, the media is only going to cover things that generate interest, and they will bend it however they deem necessary to keep your interest, regardless of facts on either side. They didn't give this story the time of day until Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton decided to show up, and the media decided this is now news. NOW its a story. Not saying this Zimmerman guy is guilty or innocent. Sad a kid had to die? Of course. But, lets not rush to judgement until all the facts are provided. I believe very little of what is printed or reported from the media, who obviously have an agenda. Remember the "rape" committed by the Duke lacrosse players?

Yeah, my kid is a good kid.......except he was suspended for a whole book bag of pot!!! Must be an honor roll kid!!

Hell bent?! Dude I just got into this discussion. Why? Because I don't like to cry me a river when there is only one side of the story. Maybe it is YOU who need to step back and look at the bigger picture before going around and yelling like a wild dog at folks who rather wait for the truth before commenting.

Read the Orlando sentinel article again. It is based on leak info on he case. Of course there is no source...yet. Orlando newspaper is liberal btw. I used to live there.

Weren't you just renouncing "sensationalism?"

So it's totally ok an unarmed minor was shot to death because he had a possessed marijuana at some point prior to his murder, got it!

I too wouldn't be surprised if another OJ walks free, because that's just how f'ed up our country is.

Are all you guys crying racism and outrage that a poor innocent teenager was hunted and murdered by a racist white (hispanic) guy EVER gonna see this for what it is? Or will you continue to be knee-jerked by the media and other groups and individuals and told what to be upset about? Pull yourselves off Facebook, Twitter, etc. for a couple hours and think logically about things.

Remember that big push 2 weeks or so ago about Kony 2012? Is he dead? Is he still doing what he was doing before Facebook got you all worked up? Is the situation resolved? Do you still give a rats ass about that or have you moved to this now? WHAT'S THE NEXT ISSUE GONNA BE and are you gonna blindly jump on board that train too?

It appears as though there might be a voice of reason here, however I bet he's gonna be labelled an "Uncle Tom" now.

Former NAACP leader C.L. Bryant is accusing Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton of “exploiting” the Trayvon Martin tragedy to “racially divide this country.”

“His family should be outraged at the fact that they’re using this child as the bait to inflame racial passions,” Rev. C.L. Bryant said in a Monday interview with The Daily Caller.

The conservative black pastor who was once the chapter president of the Garland, Texas NAACP called Jackson and Sharpton “race hustlers” and said they are “acting as though they are buzzards circling the carcass of this young boy.”

Jackson, for example, recently said Martin’s death shows how “blacks are under attack” and “targeting, arresting, convicting blacks and ultimately killing us is big business.” (SEE ALSO: Jesse Jackson says Trayvon Martin ‘murdered and martyred’)

George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch captain, killed Martin, a 17-year-old black man who was unarmed at the time of his death, last month. Zimmerman has claimed to have shot Martin in self-defense and has not been charged with a crime.

But Bryant, who explores the topic of black-on-black crime in his new film “Runaway Slave,” said people like Jackson and Sharpton are being misleading to suggest there is an epidemic of “white men killing black young men.”

“The epidemic is truly black on black crime,” Bryant said. “The greatest danger to the lives of young black men are young black men.”

Bryant said he wishes civil rights leaders were protesting those problems.

“Why not be angry about the wholesale murder that goes on in the streets of Newark and Chicago?” he asked. “Why isn’t somebody angry about that six-year-old girl who was killed on her steps last weekend in a cross fire when two gang members in Chicago start shooting at each other? Why is there no outrage about that?”

Bryant said he worries that “people like Sharpton and those on the left” will make Martin’s death a campaign issue in the presidential race.

He speculated that they will “turn this evolving tragedy of this young man into fodder to say… if you don’t re-elect Obama then you will have unbridled events or circumstances like this happening in the streets to young men wearing hoodies.” (RELATED: Herman Cain criticizes ‘swirling rhetoric’ after Martin shooting)

He also criticized President Obama for his “nebulous statement” responding to Martin’s death that “if I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon.”

“What does that mean?” Bryant asked. “What was the purpose in that?”

Sharing from elsewhere..

Let's start with the version of events that is most charitable to Zimmerman:

He is at home. He is worried about crime in the neighborhood. He sees someone walking down the street who he judges --for whatever reason --to be suspicious. He chases that person down. They have an altercation. He shoots and kills that person. That person turns out to be an unarmed minor who has not committed any crime. The police arrive and declare the shooting justified.

This is not an okay situation. You can't chase someone down and kill them just because you find their presence in your neighborhood suspicious. Even in the Wild West, people actually had to commit a crime first.

And even if we take Zimmerman's version of events as gospel truth, it's still clear that neither the altercation nor the killing would have taken place if Zimmerman hadn't initiated contact. It's also clear that it was a baseline police responsibility to investigate, no matter what Zimmerman told them at the scene, even had that investigation eventually cleared him.

None of this mentions race --so why does race become such a big part of this story? It's first worth noting that it is still within the living memory of the nation (as in, there are people are still alive who remember these events) that people were routinely, openly, explicitly and with the complicity of the law, killed because of their race. It's also definitely true that even today race itself is enough to routinely bring people under suspicion in certain places.

In some sense, however, the ugliest side of this is the kind of things people are pulling out in defense of Zimmerman. For instance, we've learned from rus that Martin was darker-skinned than he appears in some of the pictures plastered all over the media. This makes it all ok? If you're dark-skinned enough, if you have enough tattoos, if you smoke enough marijuana, if you have enough gold teeth, then at some point it becomes all right to shoot you with impunity? That's really a worse line of argument than I ever expected to see here --even from people I rarely agree with.

Aside from this entire story:

are you saying that if you see someone suspicious lurking around your car or home, you would not go outside to get a better look at them, in order to possibly provide the police with at least a good description, or see what they are up to? Again, do not think Treyvon Martin, think about anyone of any race. If I see someone in my neighborhood that acts suspicious, I am not turning around and pretending they are not there. Hell yeah, I am going to be a little nosey and see what they are up to.

I live in a less than awesome neighborhood and I call the police from time to time if I see anyone suspicious looking and report it. Lot's of AC theft mostly

I don't grab my gun and stalk them around the neighborhood though.

I am not talking about "stalking" anyone. And keep in mind, my question is completely separate from the Treyvon Martin situation. I am just simply asking: if you see someone suspicious around your property, it is not unreasonable to expect that person to "check them out" in order to preserve one's property. Your quote "it's still clear that neither the altercation nor the killing would have taken place if Zimmerman hadn't initiated contact", while true, is simply too convenient and not practical. You don't know, nor do I, how this exact contact went down. I almost always legally carry a firearm. If I were leaving a store and saw some guy lurking around my 4Runner, I am pretty sure I would see what they were up to. And this may involve us having some sort of personal contact, whether it was initiated by me or not. After that, things can go in about a million different directions. All I am saying is the media is telling all of us what they want us to hear right now. Let the authorities do their job. If the evidence supports probably cause to arrest Zimmerman, he will be arrested and charged. Until then, lets not jump to conclusions.

If the authorities had done their job properly, I imagine the Sanford PD Chief would not have stepped down and the US Department of Justice wouldn't be involved. They're not exactly known of their hysteria in getting involved in local police matters.

Certainly, one fails to see my sarcasm...which certainly would explain your bias.

Dude WTF?

You dare insult Steven Colbert ....

Just curious, who do not consider a hack, who is a quality journalist?

Colbert is a comedian that covers the news, that does not make him a hack.

Were you aware the state of Florida has a law on books PROHIBITING the arrest of a shooter when self defense is claimed and corroborated by witness testimony / statements? Perhaps the Sanford PD did do their job, but the media wants you to think they didn't.

So that's why they stuck him in the morgue with a John Doe toe tag even though he had a motherf*cking cell phone on him at the time of his murder.

They sure are awesome at their jobs! Amazing detective work, Sanford PD!

So, one cannot steal a cell phone these days?? Was there a lock on the cell phone, as most do?? These are just some quick thoughts that come to my mind...yeah, i am sure that there are no African American or real parents on that police force at all!! But hey, you so quickly assume incompetence that i am sure that you thought it through...you're so much smarter than those idiotic incompetent police officers!

Lets see...lets put this guy on death row based solely on the girlfriend's after-the-fact testimony!! Hell, those 1st hand EYEWITNESSES (note plural) accounts should be thrown out immediately for being irrelevant to the Jesse what-the-fu*k Jackson's crusade! Big Al and Jesse should burn in hell for leading these idiots! I am sure that a riot has already been planned in cities across America...hey, what better way to get your five finger discount shopping done before Easter, right? Good for economy i am sure. Why on earth would Obama get involved in this is beyond me?!

its pretty obvious you have made up your mind and will not consider other points of view. That is ok, and your right to do such. We will simply have to agree to disagree.

As for the "John Doe" toe tag. I have not heard this, but if the only form of identification he had on him is a cell phone, that is hardly sufficient enough to make a positive ID. Further, I am sure that decision was made by the County Medical Examiner, not the Samford Police. It is the Medical Examiner's responsibility to establish identity in the absence of something that is clear cut (Driver's license or State ID card). And, how do you know the Samford Police did NOT do a thorough investigation? Just because the feds are involved does not mean they didn't do their job. Maybe the feds are investigating a possible hate crime angle, which is a federal offense. Maybe the feds were brought in due to political pressure because someone of power or authority were not happy with the way the investigation turned out, regardless of fact. Or, as you state to somehow KNOW AS FACT maybe Samford PD DID drop the ball. However, you continue to ignore one very important angle to this entire story that I wrote in my last post: You, I, the media, and just about everyone else in the country does not have all the facts. Until those facts are collected and presented to a Grand Jury for possible indictment, I will reserve my judgement. If evidence proves Zimmerman acted inappropriately according to the pertinent local, state, or federal laws, then he needs to be held accountable. If the evidence shows he did not act inappropriately, then get ready for a serious sh!t storm from those who have a political agenda. I just refuse to believe everything the media throws at me and have enough time and experience on this planet to know that things are rarely so clear cut or black and white (no race emphasis intended).
